When dining at an "All you can eat Buffet" how many times do you refill your plate, do you go for seconds, third servings or even four servings. How big is your appetite and how much can you put away? Oh, let's not forget the dessert!

When I was in Rhodes in 2007, the hotel had a buffet style dinner every single night, after the first few nights it was a novelty then it kind of got boring, too much of a good thing if you know what I mean, the first few nights I think I went up three times to fill my plate, but then you get a little paranoia wondering who is watching you and people being judgemental. But by the fourth evening it got too much and I was more than happy with just one or two help yourself servings. You can easily pig out as well and eat far too much because it's all there in front of you. Kind of like a boy in a cake shop!

Yes I know what you mean. The selections are so many you'll always find something to satisfy your hunger. I just love those tiny little Swedish Meat Balls, oh I can really put them away. HAHAHA

I normally start off with the salad bar portion of a buffet. I just get a little of each one that I like - green salad, potato salad, carrot salad and some fruit. I try to fill up on the healthier stuff first. Then I will get a second plate and get my main meal - some meat, veggies, potato and a small bread. I do not get a lot because I do not want to be stuffed and most of the places have some yummy desserts so I want to try a little of that too. After I eat my main meal, I will wait a little and then try a couple of bites of a couple of desserts. I also drink iced tea or lemonade with everything. So I guess that is really just 3 plates but it's similar to a regular dinner at a sit down restaurant because I get a salad, main plate and dessert. I feel like I get my money's worth without going overboard. My husband will have about 5 plates but he doesn't put a lot on his plates either - even less than I do on mine but he tries more things than I do. I love Hometown Buffet!

A lot of people do like you and have the salads first, main meal and desserts last. Every time I respond back to this discussion I get hungry. LOL

I like having to have a buffet and I enjoy eating:) I will often go to fill my plates:) I remember in the past we had a buffet in a Brazil BBQ restaurant. Since I like BBQ beef, and the waiter often held the beef and cut pieces and fill to my plate. My husband teased him just put the whole beef to my plate so that he didn't have go to our table often:) I love China

I always eat just one meal a day so a Buffett is my best bet actually. I start with one plate of just sald items. Then a plate of fruits etc after that. Then one sometimes 2 plates of the meat and taters part of the meal. Of course a few servings of breads and or rolls all followed by two dessert choices usually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well, my girlfriend, her mother and I went to such a place for lunch on her birthday Dec. 19th, and I had a full plate of "main course" stuff, plus a full plate of salad, then when I went for dessert, I grabbed a dinner plate and filled it, too! Actually, I think the desert plate was piled higher than the meat plate. I didn't have to eat for the rest of the day. Burp!

Hahaha I herd that burp all the way here - it was that good huh? I am in the mood for good Buffet but they have closed many of them down where I live. When I go visit my brother down in Florida they have some really nice one's down there.

Hello howard96h, Normally, I will make sure that my stomach is empty whenever I go for buffet. I can go up to third servings sometimes but most of the time, I only manage to refill my plate once. If I am really full, I skip the dessert sometimes too.

In my younger days, I would eat until I felt as if I would explode!!! Now, I'm full before I finish my salad. Then I'll eat a few vegetables & stop. I no longer get my money's worth!!!

I bring with me my REAL appetite. I tend to eat a little normally just to watch my weight but I can really eat A LOT. I think I can go up to at least 5 servings - then dessert isn't counted. I would probably rest for a while then get me 2 servings of dessert. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I am not a dessert eater so I forget that and just attack the main food. Are there many Buffets where you live? They have closed so many down in my area. When I go visit my brother down in FL there is this one place I love, the food is so delicious he has to carry me out of there.

I try to go back as many times as I can! Probably 3 or 4 times LOL. I have to get my moneys worth when I go to buffets. Especially on Sundays when they're usually more expensive because there's sea food. I make sure I'm full so that no money was wasted. I tend to just get a water because I don't want to get a soda that costs me money when I'm already paying for unlimited food. Does that make sense? Hahaa

Yea, why get the soda and have to pay for it, it just helps to fill you up, all bloated and all, water will do just fine. LOL

That's the first time I hear of unlimited drinks, wow, most of those places make their extra money off the sodas/beverages.

The buffet we go to includes unlimited drinks with the meal as well. I usually get fresh-brewed iced tea myself.

I always feel as if I should at least "try" to get my money's worth, but generally don't. I most likely will have two average serving size plates and perhaps soup, but generally no dessert. What about you?

I am not a dessert eater, don't favor sweets so I basically pig out on the main food. I especially love those Chinese Buffets. Every time I come back to this discussion I start to get hungry, need to take a peek in the fridge.

We have 3 that I know of but only one we actually go to. One is a chinese buffet that I didn't even know we had till my neighbor took me last month. Really good food. Another is one we don't like cause the food isn't all that good and always cold even when the food should be hot.

Once...LOL. I'm actually a very light eater, but eat all day and night long, but little portions. I've never been one to go to one of those all you can eat places and pig out not even as a kid...When my folks and I used to go to the Lancaster, Pa area there was a place exactly like that called Good 'n Plenty...I looked it up on the computer not long ago, and wow, it's still there ..anyway...with my eating habits as they are...a nibbler maybe explains why I'm still only 110 pounds. Oh speaking of which..I'm nibbling on the remainder of my vegetable dip and potato chips right now. It's almost gone too

I don't like going to them. But I get out voted and we go. I get two plates one with salad and then chicken and mashed patotes and a veg. Now I have watched my roommate and it is scary how much food he can put away. I now bring a book with if my son doesn't go. As I'm ready and he is still eating. He can eat 3 to 4 plates and that is on a bad day.It pays for him to go. And he is tall and thin. Me the one who eats right. Short and fat. How rude is that. But hey I guess that is what happens in my family. Younger all thin we hit 45 we get fat.I'm working on it.

My roommate eats that not my son. My roommate is 46 that is just so wrong. All's he does is eat. I still waiting for him to get fat. Been waiting almost two years now. and still just gained a little. As I took him in when he was homeless so was really thin. His waist was 29 inch now up to 33 to34 inch and stopped gaining.Wish that was me.Have a great night.

Whether it is a "All you can eat Buffet" or it is normal order by the menu at a restaurant, the capacity of your stomach does not change. when you order by the menu, you pick and chose items from teh menu but eat sufficinet quantity to fill yor stomach. When you eat at a "all you can eat Buffet," you still eat teh same quantity but yes you ahve the choice to choose from a larger variety. you can chose to eat everything in smaller quantities or eat jsut one or two items.

That's a good point, maybe it appears more because of the smaller and different items on the same plate as opposed to a giant steak dinner at a menu restaurant.

i love food but i guess i don't have that big of an appetite when it comes to an "all you can eat buffet." my dad always tells me that he loses his money whenever he asks me to go with him to it because i only go for seconds while he goes for four servings. even my boyfriend teases me because even if i only eat a little i gain weight easily and him on the other hand, no matter how many servings he eats doesnt make him fat plus, he really does have a big appetite!
