My son (almost 9) was just sitting here reading a story to his younger sister(almost 2). Normally my son hates to read, but when it comes to reading a story to his little sister he is all about it. Do your older kids like to read to your younger ones who cannot read yet? Do you have a kid who hates to read?

I think a child reading for his younger brother or sister is meaningful and purpose driven. Well done to your 9 year old son for sharing his reading skills and story telling ability with his younger sister. I am a primary school teacher and I like it when Year 5 or 6 children come to read my Year 2 class. My older son can read but he is dyslexic. He likes reading history books but sometimes not the books he must at school.

My daughter has read a book or 2 to her new brother. But since he is so young, he doesn't show much interest. She will try every day or 2 though. It really is cute.

My brother used to read for me when I was young. He maybe didn't like to do it, but he get paid with chocolates. We just barter....

Reading - My daughter reading to her little brother (the toddler, obviously an old pic).
All my kids love to read, and the older ones have been known to read to the younger ones now and then. It's not something they do often, usually they just read to themselves outloud. Even the toddler will pick up a book and pretend to read it to himself, but there have been a few times they'll read to each other. It's the sweetest thing.

My five year old daughter loves to read to her little sister who is two. She knows quite a few words but she is still learning to read but if she starts to have trouble she won't let it show instead she will just make something up and go on with the story which I have always thought was cute. They have a great time reading together which reminds me from time to time that even though they fight a lot they do love each other.
