The game that is rapidly becoming the national game, especially since it is only played in Australia, is Australian Rules Football. If you can imagine a soccer game played on an oversized oval shaped field with a rugby shaped ball, no off-side rules, full body contact tackles, with hand ball as part of the game, and extra goal-posts for scoring on near misses, you might get some idea. 18 men a side, and it is as fast as soccer, as tough as rugby, and requires immense stamina and speed. The nearest thing to word to it is Gaelic football, which is close enough that the two countries play a three game amalgamated rules series each year. Lash

The game is played over four quarters and usually lasts about 2.5 hours. Some of the players can kick a ball 70 metres to a waiting player. The skills level, with the best players, is extraordinary, and they're tough and fast into the bargain. If you get a chance to catch it on TV, spend the time watching one game at least. Lash

well.. there was a time it was swimming... & then the table tennis section started to get really good results.. so it's really torn between swimming and table tennis... I swim though.. for fun. As in leisurely.. i got so turned off by the vigorous training programs for team players that i started to lose interest in swimming competitively. As for table tennis... well, when it became a "hot" favourite game, i was already too old for going competitive...
