Including a gift receipt

When you buy clothes for friends or relatives, do you ask to have a gift receipt included in the purchase or not? I always think about this. If I include a gift receipt then the person can easily go back to the store and change the gift. But I want the person to wear what I picked out because I did spend some time choosing the "perfect" gift. But if I don't include a gift receipt then the person might not be able to return the gift if he or she doesn't really like it and the gift will just go to waste...

When I buy clothes or shoes yes I would like to include the receipt. I always ask the shop owner if they do accept the items to be returned. If not I will shot buy anything from them. Thus I will be enabling the person that I intended to buy the gift for, to have something to his or her taste, if the gift chosen was not to his or her liking. Really? I never ask about the return policy. I just say yes when the cashier asks if I need a gift receipt, haha. Maybe I should be more proactive like you.

Really? I wait for the cashier to ask me before I have it included! Boo! I will try to be more proactive and ask for it first next time. :(

Before i dont include gift receipts when i give gifts but with your rationale i guess ill start including gift receipts. Its a bright thing to do cause there are times when the size of your gift doesnt fit the receiver. In that way he/she could go to the mall and exchange the item.

I always include a gift receipt so that the recipient can return the item if he or she doesn't like it. I think that the person knows that you spent a lot of time choosing the perfect gift but even though you really like it, it may not be their taste. I don't think that it matters if they exchange it. If they do, then they will pick out something that they truly love and every time that they wear the item they will think of you. I recall that as a teenager an Aunt bought me a blouse which I absolutely hated. I didn't want to hurt her feelings so the blouse sat in the bottom of my drawer until we were going to see her and then I dragged it out and wore it to please her.
