...without formal education on the field of that specific exam? Like can you pass the CPA board without taking accountancy in college? Can you pass the BAR exam without taking law? Can you pass just relying on your present academic knowledge?

Hey there modstar. If it's multiple choice, I believe I can pass it, but I'd be relying mostly on luck and intelligent guesses rather than knowledge. The BAR is a different beast altogether as I believe the exam involves situations and court cases where the knowledge of the law and due process is absolutely necessary. Right now, I don't have absolutely no chance of passing the BAR, but I bet I have a 20 to 30% chance of passing any other multiple choice type licensure exam . Cheers!

Haha! Finally, someone on the same boat with me. That's exactly where i'm going to get answers from. Luck and intelligent guesses. I agree, no amount of luck can make me pass the BAR exam. Lol! I'm just going to rate you all positive because i've awarded the BR to Reeta. Good answer brad!

No, I don't think that I can pass any licensure exams without taking any formal education on the subject. Even if we say one is very knowledgeable on the said topic, one needs to research and study really to grasp details. BAR exams are really hard and I know that because my dad is a lawyer and he spent months to study for the BAR exams and he also knows people who have taken the exams a couple of times and the still could not pass it. In exams, you are not only presented with situations and asks you how to deal with it but their are also terms that you have to familiarize yourself with.

Totally agree JM. If I had not studied nursing I would NEVER have passed that exam. You have to know for example: why A is the right or better choice and why B,C or D are they wrong answers. That's how I had to study. I was a nervous wreck. The computer will give one examiner so many questions and the end test and the next person may be on 20 minutes longer. I got very nervous when it ended the exam. Yes, I passed. But, it wasn't a piece of cake.

Could I pass?? Not by any stretch of the imagination...lol. The way I like to shop, you wouldn't want me handling your money. On the other hand, I have known several people who have studied independantly and have passed the BAR exam. I took them about the same time to study, as in going to law school. It must take a passion for the subject and a lot of dedication to study, more difficult because of lack of structure that a good school gives you.

I don't think you can pass any licensure exam without taking formal education classes on the subject matter. The only exception would be if you have extensive hands-on experience in the field--then you could probably pass an exam. First of all, the review booklets or courses for examinations are just that--for review. They assume you are already familiar with the subject matter. It would not be possible to learn everything you'd need to know for an examination from just a review booklet or course. Secondly, licensure examinations are becoming much more complicated these days. These exams are not simply comprised of things such as vocabulary. Instead, the questions are conceptual--you have to demonstrate that you can apply theory in any given situation. In order to do that, you have to be thoroughly knowledgeable in the subject matter. In my opinion, it would be very hard to do that without taking formal education or having hands-on experience in the field.

You know what? I've actually tried taking a sample Teacher's exam and man it's tough! I thought the questions would be easy... but who knew it's going to be THAT hard? I graduated with a degree in ECE and I've passed the board exams (in flying colors, in fact) and I am still unemployed as of the moment (one of the many people who blames the recession)... Anyhow, if there is one exam out there which I dream of taking-- that would be the BAR Exam. Now if I can top THAT then I'll probably content with the level of my knowledge. On that note, I've already taken the MENSA exam and I passed that too. Too bad, I'm not a registered MENSA member yet. (laughs)

Did you check your score on the sample teacher's exam? Not with flying colors but you may have made it. Cheers to you bro for passing the ECE licensure exam. That to me is tough even with open notes! Lol! I passed the Civil Service exam eventhough i'm expecting to fail. Lol! I heard a lot of stories about good students failing it. I'm beginning to think that the exam's system is questionable. What do you think? Was i just lucky? Lol!

I do not think it is possible to pass these licensure exams without taking formal education on the field of the specific exams. It is more feasible to pass these exams without taking formal review (but must be coupled with loads of luck). I know people who took licensure exams without undergoing the review sessions but passed. I took the CPA board and did not pass.

i think i would be able to pass any exams if i wanted to. i just did not choose to study any course that will require board exams because i think that will just be a waste of time when i can already find myself a work.

aloha :) FYI: my first choice in college was Accountancy but Admin told me that i am over-qualified LOL so i shift into another course..hmmmp that time am confident enough that after taking up this course i will definitely pass tha CPA board exam hehe uhmmm am not a major graduate/degree holder either of these two (i'll take this one LOL) but we do have minor subjects from our Accounting and Law classes that time (just about sales/mktg- can we count this in or do you mean no knowledge at all hehe :P) i can answer those questions "mini mini mayni mo" LOL (we used to do this in our normal exams right?-multiple choice in particular) passing is quiet hard but i can get the exam and answer those questions-let's give it a try POWER! hehe thanks!:) happy myLotting!;) Godabless!0=)

I don't think I can. Come to think of it, if many of those who studied a particular for four years or more and get a board or Bar exam don't pass the licensure exam, how much more me?

If I studied on my own for something like that, I am fairly sure I could. I also feel that if I COULD, then I should receive the certification or diploma or degree or whatever it is, know what I mean? If I prove I have the knowledge, then it doesn't matter where it came from. I would actually be in favor of this for most things, instead of having to spend so many years and so much money going to school.

No I can't but I do know a friend of mine that could pass the CPA one. When it comes to numbers we all just sit and watch him. He is fast and add minus and all that without paper and it is cool. I take him to the store with me so I don't over spend. You have a great day

i dont think so, some cannot pass their own field how much more on not your field. right? like in my case, iam a bsed math graduate. grrr! honestly i like my course but what can i do thats the course that they want me to get. so i did! since their the one who sent me to school during my college days. i have this talent that very confident with myself, during exams i dont study my lessons, i will just talk to myself that i can do it, so that habit was on my system already.. so after graduation, after a month i think,, wow i processed my papers for board exams without any review at all. LOOOOOOOOOOOL what a guts really! so what happened? i failed the exam. and i felt a lit discouragement and on the other hand, i learned.. too much compliance will kill us. LOL

I doubt it very seriously. Without knowledge of the subject you are testing on how could you possibly answer the questions? What prompted you to ask this?

I'm just imagining things like what if luck is on our side, considering there some licensure exams that only has multiple choice type of exam. We could be lawyers, nurse, etc by now. Lol!

In the work I do I provide service for many different clients and each one has their own requirements of how they want the service provided. To qualify for work with these clients there is usually a test to see if you understand the parameters of the assignment. These tests are always multiple choice and true/false. If I take the test without reading, and sometimes studying the instructions and guidelines the client publishes I will miss at least half of the answers. In any profession a 50% score on a license exam would be a failure and you would not get the license. So I don't think anyone would be able to pass these tests without studying for the profession. Is this the answer you were looking for?

Hi modstar. I would have to be like the character of Leonardo diCaprio in Catch Me If You Can to be able to pull out a stunt like that. Thanks. Have a great weekend!

I think not because the content of the examinations would be different from what you have learned/ mastered in your specific field of study. Not unless someone's a genius.
