How would you guys best answer this response? Post your response to the following: AxiaCollege takes academic honesty seriously. Think for a moment about an author whose original work has been plagiarized by a student. Why would that author consider plagiarism to be such a grave offense?

This happened to me recently (see "Plagiarist!" discussion) with an article I wrote on Associated Content. Why did I consider it a grave offense? Well, there's some thoughts in that other discussion, but I can tell you why right here: 1. It's MY work. I put in the effort. I took the time to research it, produce it, re-word it, check it and publish it. The person who copied it didn't. Many writers see their work as their children (if you see what I mean): very personal productions. Someone else takes credit for it? Grrrr. 2. It's MY money. In that case, it's not a lot, but it's still mine. Not only has the thief taken my thoughts and words, but my income. 3. It's MY reputation. An author rarely sells anything unless they're well-known or at least have a bit of reputation. Someone takes my work and publishes it with their name? That takes away from my standing in the community. 4. It's damned lazy. Think your own darned thoughts. If you don't have the brain power or talent, work harder. If you can't do that, get out of the business. Hope it helps!
