Flirting with a smile

Last year in 2008, situation with the economy & inventory issues, they're having the Christmas party little late... Actually it's today, starting at 8 tonight... As I'm getting ready to go to the party, it just reminded me of last year's Christmas party... Of course I took my girl friend with me... There was this girl that started about a month before the party was held so she was still just starting to get to know the people at work... My girl friend & I got to the party little early so we could sit & have few drinks... My girl friend went to the bathroom & few minutes later this new girl walked in & set down at the end of the bar... Now, before I go any further, this is not about insecurities or trust or vent or anything... I just brought this situation up because I'm curious... And back to the situation on hand... New girl orders her drink & by the time bar-tender comes back with her drink, my girl friend comes out of the bathroom & sits down next to me... I gave her a big hug & a kiss... At this point, it's pretty obvious & apprent that we're together... I pointed out the girl that was sitting at the end of the bar & told my girl friend that she's the new girl that started at my work... And just as my girl friend & I looked over, she looks up & saw me and gives me a big smile... I know she didn't mean anything other than just a friendly smile & maybe even a smile of little relief that she saw someone she recognized from work... I gave her a big smile back & we all started talking to each other... At the end of the day on our way back home, my girl friend started teasing me about how I was flirting with her with my smile... Just so you know the dynamics of me & my girl friend, we don't hide anything from each other... We both have complete trust in each other & both of our lives are an open book to each other... I have no interest in other girls what-so-ever other than that of a simple friendship... That being said, my girl friend & I always kid each other & tease each other about these things... But anyway, my question was, what is it about a certain way of smiling at someone that makes it a flirt? Is it possible to flirt with someone without even meaning to or knowing it? Next day I went back to work, some female co-worker even told me, laughingly, how I was flirting with the new girl... lol... I really, really didn't mean to & if I did, I think I owe some people an appologies... But like I said, I didn't even know I was flirting... My girl friend didn't even make anything of it other than teasing me once in a while about it & even laughing at me for it, lol... But at the same time, I don't want this to continue... If I'm doing something wrong, giving a wrong impression to someone, weather the flirting is mutual or not, I just don't want my girl friend to get the wrong idea or impression that I'm after someone else... It could be just my personality & thank God my girl friend knows me well enough not to be threatened by it... I just wanted to make things right if I'm doing something wrong...
