Every religion has it's own rituals; Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Wiccan, etc. etc. etc.
These rituals are taught to followers from Day One; by parents, family and friends as well as by religius leaders. Over time they become deeply ingrained and automatic. However, many of these rituals have a deeper spiritual meaning. They are symbolic; but, sometimes the symbolism and true understanding of them is lost through repetition.
I decided the New Year might be a good time to take a closer look at our rituals and actually think about them. It is also a good time to share understanding of our rituals and religion with others.
So, please answer a couple of questions for me.
What rituals do you observe/participate in?
What is the deeper meaning of these rituals?
Do you REALLY believe in what these rituals represent OR do you observe/participate in them because of habit, because it is expected of you by a parent or spouse, or because everyone else is participating and you do not want to stand out?

Every one understands that any man in the street would find it very difficult to identify and hold the "idea" of God in his/her mind. All but a few in any religion would feel comfortable with whatever level of abstraction the particular religion affords. Because any description of God suffers from insurmountable inaccuracies. Not only that, it doesn't take much imagination to land into contradictions like the one given below for a sample:
Is God Omnipotent = Capable of creating anything? Yeah! Then can He create such a huge stone that He couldn't lift it Himself? If you say yes, then God is NOT omnipotent because He is not able to lift one of His own Creation. In other words there is ONE creation greater than Himself. If you say, NO to the above question, then agin right from the beginning His omnipotence is lost! You know where is the fallacy or difficulty in the argument? I would say it has to do with Language as we use it. There are several such questions which will you lead you veritable culs-de- sac one after the other. You will get nowhere.
Instead you tell the simpleton [ Here the greatest Scientist also is included as for "understanding" is concerned. Look! God has spoken to the Prophets. He has told what His children must do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Follow the 10 Commandments. Bow to none other than Yahweh.Go to church.Attend Congregations. Sign the Cross, when ever Evil crosses your path. These instructions and the associated practices are the RITUALS. They are just different in different religions, but all the same they are equally meaning less.
But then for some reason, like because your Mom told so or your Dad told so you simply accept, for you love them, all that is told to you and faithfully follow ALL that is properly taught to you. As you keep going over this there comes a time, when you begin to understand why this must have been told to you. You can now drop the rituals. They are no more needed. If it comes to that you need not go to church. Your heart is filled so much with the Love for the Lord that you see nothing other than His presence in every act that you do. You have now gone so close to Him that you deserve to be in His presence all the time. This state is called Heaven.
Thus rituals are an artificial means by which you can move closer to God till you see Him in everything you do.

This is a very complex answer; but, it does not really answer what I was asking.
Do YOU participate in any of these rituals and if so which ones?
Do YOU believe in the deeper meaning of them? Example "Sign the Cross, when ever Evil crosses your path." If you do this; do you really believe it protects you or do you do it out of habit? Do you believe you have to pray in a specific way for your prayers to be heard?
That is the information I am seeking here and so far no one has answered my questions.
