Because I tried signing up on Elance and they charge fees. I'm not talking about the percentage they keep from the jobs u make money off of, I'm talking about the tests they MAKE u take BEFORE u can even apply for jobs. Skills tests $4 each, now imagine u have LOTS of skills, thats a lot of money being taken out of your pocket there and theres no guarantee ur even gonna get any of the jobs on elance. I don't know about odesk and guru, do they make u pay out of ur pocket to take some tests or whatever before u can look for work as well? I don't mind if they take a percentage out of the money i make from jobs but I do mind them taking money from me when I havent even gotten a job from them yet.

Sologig.com Freelancewriting.com Associatedcontent.com (which is less a freelance directory and more just a place to get paid for writing articles....if you work it well, you can make a pretty good chunk of change) Also, WritersDigest.com has a Writer's Market section but it is subscription based ($5.99 a month or $39.99 a year, relatively cheap for what you get) Beyond that, find magazines that cater to your writing specialties and get their freelance guidelines. A lot of magazines put the guidelines in the masthead but with some you have to send an SASE to the editorial department. It should say in the masthead either way.

Try browsing through some of the professional writing market guideline databases. They're free - and they're the same places the pros go looking for work. If you want to earn pennies, hang out at revenue share sites like Helium or Associated Content. If you want to earn a real living from freelance writing, try these. www.worldwidefreelance.com/masearch.asp www.writingfordollars.com/guidelinesDB.cfm http://freelancewritinggigs.com/webandprint/ www.duotrope.com www.fictionfactor.com/markets.html Hope this helps.

Hey there, I thought I could offer my services here as I have a blog that is dedicated to making money online as a freelance writer. Maybe you could take a peek and let me know which ones have been profitable for you? I hope you manage to find something you like!

hey man, try getafreelancer.com. its completely free to sign up and you can stick yourself in as many categories as you want. There is a free version of Elance but you have to limit yourself to one category which kinda sucks if you're freelancing exactly BECAUSE you're diverse! Hope this helps! (btw, Elance is known as THE freelance website so they can afford to charge those fees. People want to be listed on there because thats where the best jobs are....)
