Hi there Abbey! The last time that we went to an out-of-town vacation was in December 2007. We went to Manila to spend Christmas with our relatives there. It was really fun and it feels so good to be with them. I miss them so much. We're planning to have another vacation there in summer so that we will be there for my grandmother's birthday.

the last vacation i went on was shortly after getting married (july 2007). my son was 6 years old at the time and i didn't want to leave him behind while my husband and i go on our honeymoon for 2 weeks. we brought him with us and called it a "family vacation" instead of a honeymoon. we went to Ontario, canada. we saw niagara falls, canada's wonderland, and an amethyst mine. i would love to go on another vacation, but money is pretty tight right now (especially since i'm pregnant with twins and they'll be arriving soon).

My last vacation was to South Africa in January 2009. I took my toddler son with me on the 12 hour flight. We explored Cape Town and the Garden Route. It was lovely to see the penguins on one of the beaches and visit Scratch Patch where I could dig in the yard to find crystals on the ground. We went on a safari for two and a half hours. In 2008 we went to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. In 2007 we went to Portugal. In 2006 I went to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Bulgaria and Romania. In 2005 I went to the Maldives.

We went to Singapore in September Abbey. We had a wonderful time and I would go again like a shot. Holidays are important and you don't have to go anywhere exotic. Sometimes we have just been away for a long weekend, or rented a cottage somewhere for a week. At least you have reasonably consistent weather where you are. However, you can give yourself the sense of being on holiday at home for a few days. Firstly disconnect the phone and the computer. Switch off your mobile too. Get up to date with all your washing etc the week before. Buy one or two things that you might not otherwise. Do not wake up until you feel like it. Don't head straight for the shower. Dress or be naked as and when you want. Go as a family to the local swimming pool. Spend the day there is you wish - or whatever it is that you like to do. If you have bikes, cycle instead of drive. catch buses when you wouldn't do normally. Do nothing domestic except fed yourselves and then simple food. When you finish your holiday "come home" and remember your break. Have fun.

You mean that you can't even afford to stay at home! That's awful. I hope that you don't have to sell the house or leave.

Last summer my fiance had some training down in the southern part of the country so I tagged along and we turned it into a little mini vacay. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to take one because he had just started a new job. We took a few extra days and did some fun touristy stuff along the way and then I wondered around the town by myself shopping and what not while he was in training. It was ok but I can't wait until we get a real holiday!
