I've a 512MB RAM in my pc....but nowadays every1 has atleast a 1GB RAM....!!!the problem is that i've only 2 slot on my motherboard comprising of (2x256)MB....if i purchase a separate 1GB RAM...the other two RAM's would be useless and i can do nothing but to throw them out....... Recently i came across a website suggesting the use of a flash drive(e.g.Pen Drive_ as a RAM.... Could u suggest me that is it really possible to use a flash drive as a pen drive??? would i get d same performance out of it??

spoiledbrat802 has already answered your question. Just to add some info: All pen drives cannot be used to save the page files. Another thing is that only Windows Vista supports this feature and is call "Readyboost". All pen drives cannot be used for readyboost because all pen drives do support the prescribed speed. Pen drive has to be ReadyBoost supported. The page file is stored in pen drive only because ReadyBoost ready pen drives are a bit faster than your HDD but it cannot be ever as fast as your RAM. It will also reduce the life span of you pen drive because these pen drives have a limited number of write/erase cycle before it is rendered useless. For example, some have a 1 million write/erase cycle. i.e. you can write and then erase the data 1 million time and after that it will be rendered useless. And a paging file is the most written and erased file in a computer. So its pretty sure you will spoil your pen drive soon.

it can be done, but it is not advisable, as it reduced the life of your pen drive, because the read write properties of a ram differ to that of a pen drive and so you will not be able to get the good performance from it. Nowadays rams are quite cheap and easily found on 0nline stores. get one. it will be very useful.

The thing about using a flash drive to act as RAM can only be done with windows Vista.Unless you have it or otherwise just take one chip and put a 1GB ram in.
