Hurry up and wait!

Seems like, since moving into the new house, I've done an awful lot of waiting for things. First the telephone serviceman then the gas company (twice) and now the cable man and the landlord. Guess it's a good thing I don't have a life The cable man just left so hopefully the only person left to wait for is the landlord, who should have been here yesterday to pick up the rent. I hate waiting. Even if I wasn't going to do anything that day, just sitting around waiting for someone seems dull and boring. Thank God I have the internet to keep me occupied. So, what do you do when you are forced to stay home and wait for a repair person? Surf the net? Watch television? Trim your toenails? What?

When I have to sit and wait, and wait, and wait, I get on the computer and do a lot of surfing, I am doing a lot of talking to myself and trying to keep from saying a few of those chosen words. Looking out the door, if I have their number I will call a couple of times. And then back to waiting, swearing and surfing.

I strip down to my shoes and prance around the house, trying on different pairs to go with whatever music is on the CD player at the time! By the time word gets around the 'service community' of my lovely shoes, the repair men are lining up at the door in record time whether I've called them or not.LOL

Yep, everything is hooked up except for the phone line going into the bedroom. But I will get around to that pretty soon I hope Landlord came for the rent and fixed the heater so that was the last thing to worry about. Yay!

I agree that waiting for these service people can be a pain and if we knew how to do most of it ourselves, then we would instead of being forced to be patient. What's worse is when they don't show up. That is what irritates me and without a call to notify you as well. What I do to keep myself occupied is either come online and surf or do some cleaning. Have a nice day

I spent one entire day at the old house waiting for the gas man to show up and turn the gas off and he didn't show. What a waste of time

When I moved into my new house that I"m in now my phone provider trying pulling a no show on me and they didn't even call me to let me know. The worst part was when they called the day before with an automated message saying that they would be over the following day and to make sure someone over the age of 18 could be present. I did end up having to cancel prior plans I made and at the end of the day when they were suppose to show up and didn't I called them to find out that they had to take a whole day to do repairs and this didn't happen for almost a month after I moved in here. Finally after calling and bugging them every morning, until I could get a straight answer the guy came and spent maybe 20 minutes to do the job. When he was here, he had no idea that I wanted my internet hooked up as well and seemed very confused about my order. Putz~

Now that, my friend would totally tick me off Sometimes I wonder just what the repairmen and the office people DO communicate to each other. Seems like very little at best.

I hate that as well hanging around. We were expecting some funiture for my sons room and I waited in all day and nothing,I tried to ring them but could not get through ,then I recieved a letter telling me demand outstrecthed supply and would not be getting any furniture ,I would have to reorder so close to christmas and few phone calls ,to call it a day and go somewhere else after christmas two days before christmas eve I received a phone call telling me that it would come the next day after all, thankfully I had nothing planned and waited all day, about eight pm the door bell rang and there were two exhausted delivery men, they looked like they had been down a coal mine. They told me they had been working since 6am deliverying things intime for christmas.I felt so sorry for them and did not utter a word of complaint and thanked them ,wished them merry christmas and they still had work to do.I did offer food and drink but they declined as they wanted to get finished and go home.

I'm glad your story had a happy ending Lots of times you can't help but feel sorry for the deliverymen or the utility men because people in a nice cozy office schedule them to way too many jobs and hours. I bet if the people in the office didn't get to go home until all the outside work was completed, they'd learn to schedule things better

How right you are people sitting in comfy offices don't realise the workers keep them there and don't appreciate real hard work but that seems to be the way it is,thankyou so much for your comment.suzzy3

Usually I would end up surfing the net, posting on mylot, listening to online radio stations and when I get bored I try to read a good novel. I hate waiting too. I like punctuality. I like to be on time and I do expect that other people are on time as well. I simply hate waiting. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog

well i only work part time, so i would schedule stuff like that for when i was home but i seriously hate waiting. my kids even tell me that i am SO impatient! i am just not one for sitting still and am generally in hyper drive. when i am home, i do a lot of crafty things, so that keeps me busy.

First of all, glad to see you back here I have no patience for waiting either. With me it's not all what you have been going through between waiting for the phone, gas, cable...etc, etc...but deliveries. Say I know I'm to get a delivery via UPS...I just LOVE it when they say delivery can be expected between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m...NOT. That means having to stick around the apt, since heaven forbid I go out, as I think to myself, the moment I step out for some errand, bingo that's when they'll come. Well as for what I do? Just putter around the place more...maybe do some cleaning chores, or work on the computer more. BUT I HATE WAITING Speaking of toenails...mmmm...could stand to trim mine

Since the internet access came back, waiting hasn't been that bad. I just hate getting up early in the morning. At least the cable guy showed up in a decent amount of time and he did call to let me know he was on his way. That was nice

Trim your toenails, funny. I just hang out and watch tv, unless I'm waiting for the cable guy. I know, I don't like waiting either and if the shoe was on the other foot they would be knocking down your door for their payment or whatever. I guess you could tell them that you don't want their business if they can't get their faster, then listen for the sound of revved engines and squealing tires.

That might work, if they were not the only business in town The cable guy was very nice, he actually called me to say he would be at my house withing ten minutes, and he was

My life is already about sitting around anyway, and often for other people so this is nothing new to me. But, I'll be moving in a few months so I'll get to do the same thing. But I'm easily entertained so its no biggie to me. If I don't have internet or cable I've always got my little portable DVD player and some movies, or I can read one of the many books in my library. There is also the option to unpack you know?

Thank god you have the internet to keep youbusy and thank God youdid not have to wait for it. Waiting is really boring. Today I had to wait all day in teh court to give evidence in a case. My case was teh 76 case listed and i was there when the court opened. the opposing advocate turend up at 12 PM and then he said he wanted to do then cross examination at 2 PM after lunch. It was an entire day wasted. Waiting and waiting and waiting is really crazy.

Indeed it is annoying to wait someone, and worst often they didnt show up, in instance of waiting for some service men, I do read some stuff, drink coffee or do some surfing or playing online games, but when the agreed time has lapsed, I would be patient enough to wait for the next couple of minutes and then call their office otherwise, I leave the waiting and has to do other things that I need to do.

Hi, i agree with you waiting for someone is so dull and boring. If i have nothing else to do then , maybe i would just surf the net and make some posts on mylot. That way, i'll not only enjoy but will catch up with my friends on line.

I think the worst part of waiting for these people is the constant looking out the window. Since this is a back house, they always want to go to the front house. The day we waited for the gas company, they went to the front house twice where everything was okay then they drove away.I didn't even know they were close by

Hey fwidman! I hate to wait too! I also spend alot of time waiting for repairmen! There is always lots of stuff going wrong in my apartment so I have to stay home and wait for them to come and fix something. And since they rarely get it right the first time I have to wait for them again! And they never tell you what day they are coming. So you can wait in for days and the one day you do decide to dare go out to do some errands that is the day the come to fix! I watch tv or mylot while I am hope waiting! It's kind of freezing now here in NY so I don't really like having to go out unless I absolutely have to!

The problem with most of these companies is that they give you such a vague time. Like they will be here between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

I too hate waiting for anything. It is specially boring and dull to wait for somebody whom you are forced to wait, but is of no importance to you. I usually get stuck to wait for my maid. I some times have to wait for postman or somebody i have called for repairs. It is too boring. At that time usually watch television. Or if more the waiting is , i get asleep.
