A question for blog readers

January 6, 2009 5:29pm CST
I've been writing bits and pieces on my 'writing' blog for a while and have just been offered my own domain for it. Now, the basic theme of the blog is to chronicle my attempt to become a freelance writer online. You know, stuff I do, mistakes I make, sites I find, advice I hear and so on - with an occasional bit of pontification, philosophising or utter claptrap. Would you, if you were visiting this blog (given the above description of its intention) find an ongoing, occasionally updated list of how much I've earned from different sites useful? Not down to the penny, but more as a sort of 'quantitive' measure of how well certain sites work for me, as opposed to the 'qualitative' or 'personal' viewpoint? I'm just wondering if it would seem a bit... gauche, crass, unnecessary. Any thoughts appreciated. Thank'ee!

If it was to show what you are earning from your writing, then maybe to encourage other's who are trying the same thing.

That's the idea. I was just afraid it might be a bit blunt to say "Look how much I've earned!" (which isn't much). I suppose the trick is wording it correctly, so it's helpful or interesting instead of boasting!

I'm often on the look out for sites that pay. So if you have a blog that can offer tips on how to earn online, sites that are good not scam, tips about being a freelance writer, and what sites offer jobs for freelancers then i would definitely check your blog.... maybe you can post your earnings too so that people would not think it's a scam.. Good Luck

Yes, that's what I was thinking. There are some VERY good sites for the basics of where to find work, tips and so on. I was thinking of going a bit more personal, since other people have done the tips and stuff (better than I would). I'm really not qualified to be giving advice, so I leave that to people who are better at this whole thing: it was more an opportunity to follow along with me as I try to earn some money. In following my cursus, maybe readers will be able to pick up some ideas and avoid some pitfalls.

I think it would be useful... ...but you'd have to stop divulging once you hit £1million, ya-get-me :-)
