Is root canal treatment painful?

Yesterday, I went to dentist with my sister for her check up after seeing her teeth doctor had told her that she might required to do root canal.Is it very painful how is your experience?

you cant really felt a thing because the dentist would put some anesthesia 1st before the procedure.. it is just time consuming because u have to come back for the next 3 sessions with a week interval... much better for a root canal than extraction...

hi, that is true we have to visit the dentist at week interval but what to do because toothache is the worst pain which is difficult to resist though it comes at frequent times..thanks for your response.

hi there achinthya,
Actually, I, myself had a root canal already and its not that bad actually. When the dentist is doing his job you wont really feel a thing since that he would apply some anesthesia before starting the root canal.

I had a root canal about a year ago and I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't much pain associated with the procedure itself. After the annesthesia wore off there was a little bit of sensitivity for a couple of days and nothing to unbearable to use pain killers.
