music to the ears

I am just wondering... We know all know that music is beautiful to the ears but I have heard that this music that we love can damage our ears especially when listening to it with the use of earphones. I think that it is true because I have this kind of experience that I have been listening to my mp3 for about 30-50mins then I feel a weird feeling inside my ears it kinda hurts so I turned off my mp3 to stop. so I think that It can be a danger for our ears to listen that long.. so what do you think? Does listening to music can damage our ears?
