Are there some people that you know that you just dont understand when they talk? because of their accent, way of speaking, speed, pitch? Do you keep asking them to repeat themselves or do you just kind of smile and nod? What do you do when you aint got a scooby wot some plonker is rabbitin on abaahht?!

Actually, I get that a lot. I work in a convenience store that is located right next to a chinese restraunt. Most of the chinese are very hard to understand. I don't have a choice but to do all I can to understand them or any other heavy accent. I never just smile and act as if I understand...can't as they are usually asking me for something. If it is really difficult, I hand them a pen and paper. most have good humour on this. There is one that teases me...comes in each day and buys a different brand of cigs. Some I've at least gotten to know what they smoke and that makes the transaction easier. This guy changes up daily and I swear he is amused by my confusion...he laughs. There is a mexican man that comes in regular and I am finally getting so I do understand him most of the time. If I don't catch what he is saying, I ask him to repeat.

oh don't get me wrong....I absolutely love the accents...just often have trouble understanding what they are saying. And the mexican when he gets excited talks so fast that it is impossible to follow him.

Sometimes, I just smile and nod, sometimes, if I really want to know what the person is saying, I will ask them to repeat themselves. I used to have to deal with people from the north via phone. One guy in particular talked so fast my head would spin. There were such long pauses between his speaking, and mine that he would ask if I was still on the line. One day I told him that he had to remember that I was a Texas gal, it took time for my auditory to catch up to his verbalization. Or something like that. He thought it was pretty funny. It just took a minute for me to hear all of what he had said and process it.

Yes, there are many people I don't understand because of their accent. It doesn't help that I have bad hearing. That just makes the situation worse. I have asked peopel to slow down when speaking, spell a word they were saying and yes I have asked them to repeat what they were saying because I just did not understand what they were saying.

There is someone who sometimes i can't understand. Mainly because he mumbles. Sometimes i will ask him to repeat himself. Other times i will just pretend i heard him.

Oh yes... that happens with me. One of my office colleague speaks so softly I have to strain my ears to try and understand what she is trying to tell me. If I havn't understood I ask her to repeat. But my best friend's boyfriend speaks so fast,I have trouble grasping it, in that case I pretend to understand what he is trying to convey. Asking him to repeat is absolutely of no use because he will still go on like there is mad dog after him...LOL. It is pointless to ask him to repeat. I don't comment but I just nod.

Hi There! Yes, I am working as a help desk in our office and there is two person I am having a hard time talking to. One is our manager and the second is the programmer both situated in Dublin, Ireland. They are sure handsome but definitely, they have a different accent. I mean, I do understand the other Irish peeps there but not them. When they talk, it seems that they are talking to themselves only and mumble things. I have to ask them to repeat everything. And I know that it annoys them but i just can't understand them with their UK accent... Good luck! Happy Mylotting and Have a great day ahead! Cheers!
