OK Iv been saving a little extra cash to get a used PlayStation 2, if some of you remember I made a discussion a while back about how much I missed my PlayStation, well anyway, I can finally afford to get one, but I'm wondering if I should get one after all, because I think about what if they stop selling the PlayStation 2 and I spend my money on it, and they suddenly stop selling games for it, I mean its only a matter of time before they stop selling PlayStation 2, and start only selling the newer systems like they did the game cube and other once popular systems. So what do you think is it worth it, should I get a PlayStation 2 and risk the possibility of them discontinuing the system and games, or just go for it?

I don't think there going to stop selling it or the games. But If I were you I would get something more newer, like the Playstation 3 that came out, the updated version of Number 2. The Wii is also a really fun interactive game, I have it and enjoy it. But it's entirely upto you. If you really really want this PS2 then go get it.

Hi ya apples99 I actually bought US a PS2 for Christmas for me and my three boys to all play together and we have great fun playing the Buzz junior games, and my mum joins in too. I bought some brand new games for us to play but I also bought some 2nd hand ones. I got them from specific gaming stores so that if I did have a problem with any of them I could always take them back. I did, however, buy one from a guy in the market and it was terribly scratched and wouldn't play. I took it back to him today in fact and he gave me my money back straight away, no questions asked and with an apology. I wouldn't buy them from ebay though because you might get some scratched ones and not be able to get your money back from people if they don't play properly. You could also ask on your local freecycle site to see if anyone has got any ones they longer want. I picked up an extra controller and some games that way and of course you can still use PS games too! So I say, go for it!!

Hi there humbug25 thanks for the advice this is great and now I can really think about the pros and cons of buying a PS2 instead of the buying the newer systems.

BUy a PS3 instead. Save more and buy a PS3. I think it would be wiser to buy a Play station 3 rather than buy a second hand play station 2.

I recommend leaving your money for a PS3. It's getting cheaper so it shouldn't be too expensive if you wait for another year or so. I think it'll be worth it than a PS2 as games created for PS3 are more profitable to companies so we get a lot more PS3 games being developed. I still have my PS2 but i notice a lack of new games and good ones. If you do buy a PS3 get a 60gb one (if i'm not wrong) as it comes with a warranty. But if you're tight with money go for the 40gb. Your PS3 can also act as a dvd player (for blu-ray discs as well) so it's very worth it.

I see well the blu-ray player definitely makes buying a PS3 even more tempting I will think about your advice for sure awesome thanks for sharing your advice with me.

Well I'm not certain if they will stop selling PS2 games anytime soon but there have been other game systems that have become "toast." I would have to recommend that you save a little more money and buy the PS3. My husband and I are avid gamers and we have just about every system out there, our next mission is to get the PS3. The games, graphics and choices are great. I know that I will be getting one this year.

I see well I really have to start saving then, if I decide to get a PS3 and I'm dying to play some of my favorite games I love the final fantasy games but anyway you have some good points so I might have to wait and save a little more for the PS3.

I really think you should hold off in getting that Playstation 2. You're probably better off getting the PS3. Afterall, the game developers are moving towards making games for that system now. I haven't seen any decent and new PS2 games out in a while. You can still find games for it right now but it'll become like the old PS1 sooner or later. It'll become very hard to find games for it. And from what I heard, the PS3 will have backward compatibility so you'll be able to play older playstation games on it. It's really your choice though.

Well it will never discontinue but it will of course upgrade but that will be still a long time ago,for about 4 to 5 years but anyway they already upgraded ps3.Well I would love to suggest ps3 if you just need to put a little money for it so that your worry will be less..It is still up to you if you will buy it but if am i you and i really earned for that particular thing i want then of course i will not think twice because that is what I really want and i will buy it..:-0 god bless and have a nice day..:-0

I don't think they're going to stop selling PS2 games anytime soon. They still sell original PS games, and some of the new PS3 systems play PS2 games. They're not going to stop selling them since they can still make money off of them.

nothing wrong with the ps2 i still have one the ps3 is too much for me to afford unless they significantly bring down the price cant even dream about having one i still love my ps2 i still play it i even play some of the old playstation games on it watch dvds on it the much cheaper of the 2 systems and as long as they are still making games for the system i am in no rush to upgrade since i still enjoy playing this system

Hiya apples, Me too, I would just buy what I have been saving so hard for. Just go out and buy it. DonĀ“t think too much about it that might put you off getting it. I would think that the games and all the things you need for the Play station will be around for ages to come as well. Enjoy playing all those games I love "The Prince Of Persia" one apart from Mario too.

I have a PlayStation 2 and it still works fine. PlayStation 3 may be new and shiny but the games are expensive. PlayStation 2 has inexpensive games by comparison, and the PlayStation 2 is also compatible with older PlayStation games, so you have a huge library. the PlayStation 3 category is tiny when it comes to the amount of games.
