Once someone told me that the bedtime stories gave lots of effects to your children's personality. My mother used to read me stories from the books, about fairy tales and the folk tales. My father was very good at making bed time stories for me, he could tell bunch of stories you would never be able to find in any storybook or children's book. Do you read the bedtime story to your kids, or just tell it from the story you have heard before? Or you just made a story for them, something that could build imagination for them?

I have a niece who is about to turn two. I introduced her to the world of reading by buying her children books with a lot of colors and pictures that will attract her attention. As of the moment she is well familiarized with teh characters in every book i bought and read for her. Of course some of the books were alphabet books so I intend to invent stories in relation to the pictures there which I pressumed she enjoys very much. When playing she usually comes to me with a book and asks me to read it for her. I guess there is no proper approach in telling shildren stories. What makes them happy and understand the story matters most.

CHildren love stories. I think you're really nice to bought your niece story books for her and it would make her interested in reading. It is proven that children who are interested in books has more developed logic and brain than those who are not introduced to books when they were little.

That's a story. How could the tales you heard when you were younger could help you and encourage you when you grew up? I we all want to know what kind of story it was and how it could help and encourage you...

I usually read stories to my daughter before going to bed. However, there are times when I prefer to make stories and she loves it. my daughter would always ask me to either read a book or tell her a story.

So you combine both methods, by reading and by telling stories to your kids. I think this could be a very good options since you would always be able to balance the stories to your kid and your kids would never get bored because they can always choose the story they wanted to hear.

I just create stories that will give moral lessons. Bedtime stories should have this as the purpose. Children are very much open to new ideas and inputs at their tender age, so we should try our best to only "feed" them the right and the most appropriate material. Cheers and happy mylotting.

I am so happy whenever I see you in my discussion, jenaisle. I know that you know a lot about kids and you're right. It is said that bedtime stories is the best way to 'tell' children about the moral lessons. When children are sleeping, their brain and their unconscious mind processed the last information they received. That's why the bed time stories would have lots of influence to the kids development.

I usually read stories to my two boys (ages 4 and 3), but sometimes I make one up. I have a whole bunch of Golden Books that I had when I was a child, and they are great for their age level. I think that it's very important to spend time interesting them in stories, whether you read your kids a story or tell them one of your own. So many parents just let the television entertain them (or video games when they are older. They are missing out on that special time with their kids, and the kids won't think that reading is important.

As a busymom, I think you're dong great with your kids. I agree with you that reading and telling stories to your kids would increase their curiosity of books and they would learn the importance of reading books. Many kids nowadays learn lots of things from television and I don't think it should not be like that. You're a good busy mom, and I think your kids are so lucky to have you as their mom.

I guess reading stories is a better choice. Stories on books are interesting in contents, and rich in vacabulary. They will gradually store in kids' memory, and be used as their own in due time. Through reading, you carry the kids into scenes of tales, old or new, which works wonders not only by the reading itself, but along with the vehicle also the tender love rendering to the kids.

That might be true... by reading the well written book we would be able to enrich their knowledge with something and add up their vocabulary as well. I believe those book was written in purpose. Maybe that was why many people still stick to the bedtime stories books...

We do a bit of both, it just depends on the situation. When I'm tired and desperate to get them to sleep, I'll turn out the lights and tell them a story, one of the ones my grandmother told me as a child, or we'll make on up together. But we also love books, so many children's books have gorgeous illustrations. So when we're all feeling more awake we sit up and read from a book.

You do the combination? WOW.. you must be a very great parent. I believe your children were so lucky to have a parent like you. I think it would be nice to be there when our children was sleeping because you would be able to give them the words that they would remembered in their unconscious mind when they were sleeping.

I am 8 month pregnant now, and I started to read stories to my baby when I was 3 month pregnant, I believe this is good to the baby. I can't remember any stories to tell, so I always refer to a children story book, and read it to my baby. I will continue to read stories to my baby after he's born, I do think it's good to him, and also it's a good way to bond us together too.

Oooh.. that's so cute. I hope your pregnancy is okay, Kaka. I believe your baby would be very happy to have a compassionate mother like you who thought a lot about the baby since it is still in the womb. I believe he/she would be a very good kid and have a tight bonding with you... Wish you the best with your pregnancy, kaka...

Thank you... I think everybody would like to listen to the bedtime stories. Most of them are really giving the relaxed feeling. How about storytelling, do you like to do that too?

I bet you and your sister must be very happy to have a very compassionate mother who would like to tell bed time stories before you went to bed. I believe that bed time stories was kind of ritual which would make the bond between parents and children closer each other.

i don't like to read some bedtime stories.Instead, after switching off the lights,i get my kids close to me and narrate them stories from various topics and sometimes ask them questions to check whether they follow the lines. And I end up the stories with the morals behind. And I use to mimic the characters, which my kids love to hear.Cheers!

I think it is really good for children to be able to get new stories everyday. A good bed time stories would be good for children's development, and if you narrate stories for your kids do you insert some moral or learning of the story? Because it would be great for children to learn something good before sleeping

Wow.. I think from your made up stories developed his ability to make stories as well. I think it would make your child more creative if hi was given more and more different stories everyday, isn't it? It happened just like me, when I was little my dad tell me stories of his own, when I got bigger, I was able to read and like it. And now, I like to make my own story. Maybe one day your son would be a good story teller like his mom
