What was Y2K and why were people concerned?

I think it was mostly about the computers not being set up to go from 1999 to 2000 for the years and the computers were suppose to crash causing lots of problems in businesses and other things. People were getting all prepared by stocking up on food and water and supplies thinking that the whole world was just to break down.
