Well what do you say? And it wasn't even a new years resolution!

People who know me from other discussions and responses might know that I don't make any new years resolutions. I do set goals for myself, I just think that you can set goals for yourself throughout the year. There is no need to slouch untill the 1st of the new year
.
Also, I have found out that archieving lots of smaller goals make people happier then archieving just one. Also, if you have some wins and some losses it's easier than one big loss; which a new years resolution can easily turn into because it is just one major goal most of the time.
I hadn't planned on working out more, basicly I was planning on cancelling my subscription to the gym asap because they had no more beginnerclasses of step aerobic on days I can attend (they only have one and that one is allways at a time and on a day I can't make it). So I worked out at home with my step DVD and crosstrainer, but it would be nice to learn some new movements.
And voila, they are giving us the oppertunity to follow a 6 week beginnercourse in step aerobics! It's not something permanent but it's nice to be able to at least have 6 weeks that I can go and enjoy the class. Because of my balance impairment and bad motor skills I will most likely never pass beginner class but I have fun working out and that's the most important thing to me
.
However, as they are not moving the class to another day and aren't getting an extra one I will cancel my subscription in may when the contract ends, and perhaps look for another gym that does offer the lessons on different times or multiple times a week (and that's closer to home).
Have you started exercising? Do you think it's a new years resolution that is easily kept or not, and why? Do you enjoy going to the gym or rather stay at home?
Let's hear some experiences!

I much prefer to set mini goals throughout the year rather than commit to full blown resolutions at the beginning of it. So many things can change over a year and these changes may end up affecting well intentioned resolution plans anyway. By setting mini goals, I can reach one and then plan a new one while chopping and changing with my circumstances at the time. As for exercise, it all sounds like too much hard work to me. As I have shared in discussions in the past, jogging my memory, occasionally running out of patience and exercising my wit is as close as I'm gonna get for now on that front!

I love those last couple of lines, James72. They are very you indeed.
I love your witty answers as much as I appreciate the serious feedback I also receive from you from time to time
.
Thank you for taking time to respond to this discussion aswell. Perhaps we can hit the 'wit' (instead of the gym) sometime together?
Kind of has a nice ring to it: hit the wit

I like the sounds of "hit the wit" too actually.
Anyways, I can't be a maniac 24/7 can I? lol. I would like to think that I can occasionally conduct myself like a sports car. "Inane to profane in under 4 seconds!"
My work is WAY serious so I like the fact that I can be silly most of the time here. I consider mylot to be the yin to my yang in life!

True, I am studying for a very serious job too so having some time to go silly is very much appreciated
. In childdaycare I have a serious job aswell, but playing with the kids you can still act goofy because most kids are excited about it if you can act and play along with their games. When I am finished with college and I have the oppertunity to grow into a higher function as a pedagogue I won't have those fun and games anymore, but I will still have a wonderfull job working with children and parents (and I'll have mylot for my fun and games
)

I don't make New Year's resolutions either because i believe in making life plans instead.. and i always want to make realistic goals, ones that are possible to achieve.. exercising? no, i don't have much time to exercise as i've got more important things to do.. but if given a chance, why not? probably, i'll be enrolling myself to a fitness class and start a healthy lifesyle.. =)

I think making life plans is a good thing, as long as you are flexible enough with them. If something goes the other way around in your life and you can't go on because your life is 'ruined and not going according to plan', you are in for a hard time. If you can cope with this they can be great for structuring and organizing your life.

I dont make resolutions either...but like you I make goals and yes exercising is one of them and yes I have started....My kids have too actually and i'm very proud of both of them..
I dont go to a gym and though I have in the past I really dont care for it..Luckily though I dont need to since I have a homegym, a treadmill and so on here at the house....Next purchase will be a kickboxing bag for the kids and I..

It's great to have a homegym, if I had more stuff at home I wouldn't be to eager to go to the gym either. My main motivation is to learn new movements, and when I know them I just as easily do the routines at home
.
Good to hear that you have started working on your goals, I am sure you can archieve them!

Yesterday I had 90 minutes at my disposal doing nothing. I drive my son to a sports complex so I thought it is better to utilise that time to do some exercises myself. I went fast walking for half an hour while I was waiting for my son. Instead of doing nothing or reading I have decided to do some exercises. It helps me to go down on weight.

Hi Cyberfluf, It is good to hear that you are able to do the 6 week beginners course to learn some new moves, keep up the good work you have been doing at home. For me I started on Christmas as one of my daughters bought me a Wii Fit and it has yoga, muscle workouts, aerobics and balance exercises on there, I am in my mid forties and have already got down to a fitness age of 28 which I am pleased about. I am like you and also make no new year resolutions but I do intend to keep this fitnes regime up and do it daily. Huggles. Ellie :D

How lovely to hear, Ellie! My neice has a wii fit which I have borrowed and I have used it for two days now. I had also used it over a month ago and my wii fit age has dropped from 36 to 20 (I am quite thrilled about it, even though it's a 'stupid' game
). I hope to improve my balance through yoga and the balance games, as the doctors told me it might be good for me. Plus, I really enjoy it! Have fun wit your wii!
p.s. if you are able to get online with your wii console we could even play together sometime, however I am not sure this can be done with wii fit but it can for sure with mario kart etc.

I think that exercising is the most broken New Years resolution. A friend of mine was at the gym the other day and she saw over half a dozen people signing up just in the time she was there - I can't help but wonder how many of them will still be going in a month! I agree that setting small, realistic goals throughout the year is more satisfying, it's also easier to stick to and therefore not as disheartening if you don't quite make it. My goals right now are to get and stay organized, stop being such a pack rat and to eat right. So far so good! I would like to start exercising but I don't want anything to intensive, just enough to make a difference. That's next!

Thanks so much for responding. I agree exercising and losing weight are the most common new years resolutions, and therefor perhaps also the ones that are broken het most and the earliest. Gyms take advantage of this with great offers but that will keep you stuck to the gym (at least financially!!) for a full year or more.
Good to hear that you are on track with your goals so far, take care!
