Hi, I hear some of my friends are saying that they have a lot of problems with their Acer notebook. Some of them say that the hardware is easily broken. I am a bit worry that if I buy Acer Aspire One, I will have problems with the laptop. So, what do you think? Is Acer a good choice?

My experience is Acer is rather limited, since I bought only one, the Acer Aspire 5570, and that will be the last. The motherboard gave after nearly 2 years of its life. I took to the Acer Service Center here in the Philippines. The board was repaired, and cost me approx. USD 110 (for repair, not for motherboard replacement -- a replacement would have cost 360++ USD). The laptop is usable, but developed tiny little problems here and there. It won't shutdown completely now, every time you shut it down (either from Windows or Linux -- on Linux using the cmd #halt -p), it just goes to hibernate, I think, and then from there the battery will be drained in a couple of hours. This could be a battery problem, but I no longer have the inclination or the interest to find out, much less solve that problem. I replaced it with a Dell Inspiron 1420 (which is what I am using now to do the lotting). We have quite a few laptops around the house, and that is the basis of my judgement on the Acer 5570, we have an old old Thinkpad (240 and 560), which are still intact (they're just old), a fairly modern thinkpad (z60m), a mac book, 2 MSI notebooks and an asus notebook -- among the lot, the Acer had the most dismal performance, in terms of durability -- otherwise, it performed well when before it broke down, and developed the small problems. Now, the Aspire One sports a different technology, Intel Atom and SSD, my experience on the 5570 may not true for the Aspire One (I did buy the MSI wind u100, and the Asus PC 701), I will not take the chance on the Aspire One. The price points of these UMPCs are not that far from one another, shop a bit more, wait a bit more. I would love the Lenovo s10 right now, but I'll wait until it's configuration comes with a battery that will last for at least, 4 hours. Thanks. happy lottin

Hi, Thanks. I am not sure about Acer Aspire One either. It is a new technology and not many people are using it. I think I need to find a friend who is using it to give me opinions.

I know several people who own acer laptops and desktops and have had no problem with them. I haven't had one myself so don't know much about them or the brand. I have been looking into buying a new laptop myself, and want to keep costs down, so I may research this brand myself.

Hi, Acer has quite a lot of laptops at low cost but the features are very good. So, it is quite good for us to look for lower cost but good performance products.

Hi, Sony's laptop is quite expensive. Dell is a better choice.

acer is a good solid brand. of course there are the haters and the macbook-fanboys, but acer is really a top brand for laptops. if you have too much money you could buy a sony vaio cause they are even better in my opinion. but they are sooo expensive i'll never be able to buy one. YES, buy the acer laptop. the people who say the hardware is easily broken are just upset cause they broke their laptop and the warranty won't pay for the damage.

Hi, Thanks. I am on tight budget. I don't think I will be buying Sony's laptop. Acer might be a good choice.
