I always have a good laugh when I watch this series on television even if I watch the episode for quite a number of times. The Vicar of Dibley is a British sitcom created by Richard Curtis and written for its lead actress, Dawn French. The Vicar of Dibley is set in a fictional small Oxfordshire village called Dibley, which is assigned a female vicar following the 1992 changes in the Church of England that permitted the ordination of women. No, no,no,...yes! I do watch the Vicar of Dibley and I love it. I watch it on my local PBS channel and I have ordered the series through Netflix. My hubby and I caught it one night last summer on late night TV. I couldn't stop laughing. I was raised in the Catholic church and I know that I will never see women ordained in my time, so my hubby couldn't figure out why I was laughing so hard! It was just that the Catholic church has no idea what they are missing...lol Hurray for the Church of England for doing so. Dawn French plays the part so well. DCMerkle

If a woman were a priest and they got snockered the way Dawn did for one of her Christmas episodes, for the Christmas eve service, then no, no, no,...yes! you bet your bottom dollar they would! DCMerkle

I think I only saw a couple of episodes, and that was before I got BBC America. I think PBS ran it a few times. I couldn't quite get the grasp of the humor, but Dawn French is funny.

Fortunata, British humor is so different from American humor. Where American humor is in your face, raw punch lines, British humor walks the line of innuendos without crossing the line. I guess that you have to watch British humor for a while before you get it, but once you do, you wish that you lived in the UK. DCMerkle

I watched it a couple of times when it was on PBS over here. It was very funny. The thing that really resonated with me is that we have an Episcoplaian church in my neighborhood that has some real eccentrics in the congregation who were a lot like some of the characters on that show. We used to sit watching Dibley and roar because someone reminded us of someone from the local church.

I've heard of it, and I think I've watched it a few times, I always thought it was funny too. I like watching those old British shows, like Keeping Up Appearances, and Are You Being Served?...they are funny.

The Vicar of Dibley is hilarious! Dawn French is marvellous, and very cheeky. I've seen all the episodes quite a few times as well. It's funny at the end of each one where the vicar tells Alice the joke - hahaha!

I don't believe I get that channel anymore. I used to watch a British sitcom all the time about someone name Rose and a few old men and a woman that would boss her husband around thought she was always better then her sister...I don't recall the name since it has been a few years since I have viewed it. But I wouldn't mind seeing it I love the British comedies. But I pay $58 a month for cable, I can't get all the channels I want.

The Vicar of Dibley is native to my country of course being from the UK but to be honest it doesn't do anything for me, I don't enjoy it, I am not keen on Dawn French and it's not my kind of humour. I much prefer One Foot In The Grave, Keeping Up Appearances they are guaranteed to make me laugh and appeal to my humour.

I don't watch a lot of TV but this is one program I do love! Dawn French is fantastic! It never fails to make me laugh even when I've seen the episodes several times either. My daughter has promised to buy me it on DVD and I can't wait to watch it all from start to finish again!

Yes, I love the Vicar of Dibley, it's one of my favourite programmes, and one of the only sitcoms I like. I'm glad you like it too. Dawn French is so funny and very likeable. I watch it sometimes on UKTV, although I also watched a lot of them the first time around. It's one of those programmes that I can sit down and watch whatever mood I'm in, and the nice, gentle humour always makes me feel better. I love all things by Richard Curtis; I think that he's a very clever writer, and a comedy genius!

I don't get to see many British TV shows these days, but in the past when I could I would watch them over any American TV sit com. I love the British sense of humor. It is so much better than the garbage that we get over here.

Hi there ronaldinu I think that the Vicar of Dibley is great, it is so funny. I in fact nearly bought the boxed set the other day but I have spent a lot lately and can't justify buying it just yet. I shall wait now until my birthday in March!!! In the meantime I am enjoying watching the repeats on tv!
