Is it necessary to get your alertpay account verified?

Yesterday I got a mail from alertpay, that i need to verify my account! Or, they said, they'll close my account. The mail said, that verify your account, because there might be a possiblity that someone else might use my account through unauthorised means. But i didn't understand this, because I never gave my password to anyone, and the main thing is I have Zero balance in my account. Till date I haven't used my alertpay account for any transactions, and suddenly one day they come and say verify your account!
For verification, they need my Photo Id prrof, Address prrof with name, Date of birth , my credit card statement, etc.
Now why should i provide them with all this??? They may use my information, especially my credit card information wrongly!
Have anyone of you also got a similar mail anytime?
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I have to say this seems really strange given that you haven't used your account at all. I could understand suspicious activity triggering an audit of your account, but if you haven't used the account how could you do anything suspicious? Did you perhaps login to your account from different IP addresses? Another possibility is that this is a phishing attempt by someone trying to steal your account details or personal information. Did the email include a link and if so does it lead to the actual AlertPay site?
