I am not well versed in all the activities that one can undertake while on a vacation at a beach. What are the differences between snorkeling and scuba diving?

snorkeling basically is swimming on the surface of the water with a snorkel on (a tube for you to breath while you head is in the water). Scuba diving, is where you bring along a gas tank filled air so that you can breath with it while swimming in the sea. Scuba diving usually involve diving into the ocean deep to see corals, fishes and sea creature. You are free to move around in the ocean until your gas goes empty before surfacing

hi rameshn...snorkeling uses a tube to breathe through while you float on the surface of the water. scuba-diving is breathing underwater with a breathing apparatus.
