Show And Tell!!!

Do you remember when you were a young child that we use to have show and tell! That we brought in our favorite toy or book or stuffed animal and shared it with the class about why it was special and what not. Do you ever remember having to have your parent's sign a permission form? I know mine never had to .. LOL!! It was wensday when my oldest daughter brought home a persmission slip for show and tell. I stared at this piece of paper that read me the riot act on that they would try and make sure that no toy was stolen but that to remember that things can be stolen so be careful what you allow your child to bring to school and that they needed permission to be involved in this activity. HUH!!! I thought it would be obvious that if there was a show and tell and my kid or kids brought in a toy that I would have approved them bringing it. By all means before they leave this house I do a bag check to make sure they have everything that I'm aware that they need for school. Grrr. What is this world coming to? LOL! People are so worried about every little thing that now they make permission slips for Show and Tell!!! So my question to you is Does your school system still have show and tell for your little ones and if so, do you have to sign a persmission slip with the riot act written on it about what may or maynot happen?

WOW! My daughter isn't in school yet and I don't ever remeber seeing any thing like that with my step kids but they may have giving it to there mom although I think she would have told me just to laugh. Anyway its crazyness that we are in a society that we can't even bring in our favorite stuffed animal with out siging a permission slip!! My question to you is... Do you have to sign it every time they have show and tell? And how often do they have it? Heres what I think happened to implement a system like this. A kid brought some thing expensive in with out his or her parents permission and it got lost or stolen or maybe the kid gave it to some one. The parent is now blaming the school for it because they can't figure out that they are crappy parents that didn't pay attention to there kid and what he or she was doing! It's like a lot of what goes on in this world. I see so many times parents blaming some one else for there mistakes. Some blame the grandparents saying well grandma gives him every thing so hes spoiled. Or Parents will say the baby sitter isn't (instert here) so my kid is a brat, and so on ... Instead of stepping up to the plate and being part of there kids life they blame others for there own wrong doings. I know I got a little off subject here but this really irritates me!!! Having worked for a school I can still hear the phone calls about my kid left this or that there and it was expensive can you go look for it. NO I CAN'T! Or the phone call saying my kid didn't do his home work because we went out to dinner! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!? I rememeber the parent bringing there child in and saying he is late because he didn't want to go to bed last night! WHO IS THE PARENT!?!?!?

Yeah it's everytime they have show and tell they do it. But they don't do show and tell often. Now about going off on a different line of thought I'm one of those what you call involved parents. I have two kids with ADD/ADHD and three others that don't I have always been involved with the teachers and my children. I have gone to the school and told the teachers if they have any problems what so ever here is my cell and here is my home feel free to call and they do. for example my daughter is very bright on her testing she scored above average actually almost a perfect on the pssa testing done in reading and math. The reading teacher calls to tell me my daughter wasn't turning in things. I then ask the teacher if I sent in a note book could we have an open communication so I know exactly what she has to have done and how she is behaving. This is for he one with ADD/ADHD. So now I have a book we communicate every day and I make sure that she has everything done. As a parent you have to take an active roll in your childs life. It's the child's responsiblity to do the work yes,and here was my problem I have a policy that when my kids come home from school they go sit at the table and door their homework and I'm available to help them if they should have any problems but the school doesn't send this is what they have to do( which they shouldn't it's the students responsiblility) but as a parent I can't make my child turn in something that I have no clue that they were supposed to turn in because they told me they were down (that is what my daughter was doing before the installing of the note book back and forth)but I can be a responsible parent and take measure to find out, hence the communications tablet. I have a real problem when parents do things that you said well my kid would go to sleep so he's late. HUH!! yeah there are times when my kids refused to listen and go to bed but it has consequences and that is usually a toy is taken away and then wether they want to or not they are up and ready for school on time. If we go out to eat say when the kids get home from school, I make sure the moment we step through the door the kids are doing their homework. Parents need to be parents not friends. Yes you can in a way do that but not at the sake of your childs education..My child can come to me and I'll be there and talk to them but I know when to put my parent hat on and say this is how it goes. There is no highway option.

LOL, this kind of thing was just beginning to happen a LOT when my youngest was in his last year of grade school. Otherwise I would have been tempted to send him to school the following year with a permission slip from ME for his being there, and asking the teachers to sign it! ROFL

I have never had to sign a permission slip for show and tell before. That is just plain silly. My son's school does not really do show ans tell as far as I know. He is in 3rd grade though, so maybe they stopped doing it by 3rd grade.

The day I have to start signing a permission slip for show and tell is the day my kids no longer participate in show and tell. The school does send home a "warning" saying that toys can be broken, not stolen, during the course of show and tell so be careful of the item you send in with your child but that is all. And also you aren't allowed to send in any toy that has, is, or looks like a weapon. Which I find funny, because I used a school book as a weapon more than I ever considered using a plastic weapon. Stolen at show and tell. I still can't believe that one. lol Next thing they are going to send home is an order form for bullet proof vests made in the school colors. *shaking head*

No kids for me, Bella, as you know, but wow, that's going a bit far, isn't it? But I suppose you'd better get used to it, darling, for I see no change for the better anytime soon. XXX Love you, Bella.

I end up signing consent slips/permission forms almost every day. Consent slip to allow your child to go on tour. ( the school is not responsible for any untoward incident) consent slip to allow your ward for children's play. consent slip for maths olympiad consent slip for quiz competition. It seems that the school is not responsible for anything at all. It also looks like the ridiculously high fee that i have paid is over & done with, because under each of these permission slips is figure mentioned which i need to pay. Thank God my son does not bring home permission slips to pee at school!!!

I will. The recession coupled with the schools spiralling fee is making my decision easier.
