What pets did you have as a kid?

I never had a cat or dog but I did have a bunny and some tadpoles that eventually turned into frogs, although most died before they did so. The ones that survived we let go. I also remember letting the bunny go behind our house. I was so sad.

I had regular pets as a kid-dogs and cats, but your story about the tadpoles reminded me of something. I used to be fascinated with snails and caterpillars as a child and I'd hold them and look at them for hours but one day I decided to take it a step further. I went and collected a bunch of snaild on the grass, brought them home and put them in a big jar where they were for a couple of days. Somehow the snails kept wanting to get out of the jar(wich was filled with water) so I had to push them back down fuming at their stupidity. The next day my dad caught me doing this and he was like "What are you doing? These are LAND snails!" lol I went and let them go but now I feel both amused and sorry for the little creatures since it must've been excruciating to reach the top of the jar with their speed only to be pushed down again with a giant finger!

Yeah, slugs are creepy and my dogs love to eat them but I think that pouring salt on them is not any worse than spraying oysters with lemon juice and eating them alive!

That is funny. It seems just like the kind of thing a kid would do at that age. I hope you didn't feel too bad because it didn't do anyone any real harm except the snails, of course.

That is funny. We have a pest here called slugs. They're like really big snails with no shell. They love to eat your flower and vegetable gardens. As a kid I heard that a good way to get rid of them was to just pour salt on them. So I did. The poor thing started melting. I felt soooo bad. I ran and got some water to pour on it to try and stop what I'd done but it was too late. It just made a bigger slug puddle. ICK!

I have never had a cat as a pet. When I was a kid we would always have a dog as a pet. Whenever we would move from one state to another we would always get another dog if we couldn't take the one we had. That is all I remember having as pets.

I would be very sad if I had to leave my dog every time I moved. How often did you move? Didn't it make you sad?

I had cats and dogs when I was a kid. I could still remember that we always had dogs to guard the house and cats to chase away the mice. I helped fed them and I had fun taking care of them.

I wish I had a cat or dog. I remember one of my friends had three cats, and two or more had dogs. I'm sure you liked having them. Happy mylotting!

I had a pet cat. Cats are really graceful creatures and I like them very much. They are innocent and sweet creatures. It is nice to hold your face close to the cat and giveit a small kiss. It is also very nice to hear the soft purring sound of the cat.

I had 2 pig-nosed turtles, various fish, boar type hamsters (very rowdy bunch), a white rabbit, a temporary dog of 1 week ( a friend's), a stray black labrador which I didn't keep as pet but it often come to my house (or it doesn't count), and chickens (for a while.. i was hoping for chicks). I never had a real dog or cat as pets. I might want a guinea pig in future.

I was lucky and grew up in the country on a nice plot of land. We had numerous cats and dogs, horses, a few sheep and goats, turtles, tropical fish and a parrot for pets. We also had chickens (for the eggs) a couple of dairy cows for the milk and to make our own cheese and butter, and we raised beef cattle for money. Though most of the cattle raised their own calves, each year each of us kids got our own calf to hand raise. My favorite was a little Brahma bull. If those pets were enough we were good at finding more. Snakes, lizzards, salamanders, crawfish, mice etc. Mom always made us let them go though which was alright. Half the fun was just in catching them.
