Stuffing!

Have you ever used a liquid other than water to make your boxed stuffing? Well last night I made apple pork chops, and chose stuffing to go with them. I wondered how the stuffing would come out if I used apple juice instead of water. So I gave it a try. The box called for a cup and a half of water, and a 1/4 cup of margerine. So I used a cup and a half of apple juice, and the correct amount of margerine. Wow! Was it ever good. The apple juice was not over powering, but the stuffing did have a bit of a sweet flavor to it. It went wonderfully with my apple pork chops. What sort of concoctions have you made with your stuffing? How did it turn out?

Thank you for the tip, never tried juice before, I always use chicken broth instead of water, it adds so much more flavor to the stuffing.

I've used chicken broth but not apple juice. I think that this is a wonderful idea and I am going to copy it on Sunday as we usually have pork on sundays. I always add to boxed stuffing the folowing= minced garlic and onion, bacon bits, and 2 eggs. I cut down on the liquid to accomodate the eggs and the eggs do make the stuffing extra yummy. Blessings

I've never put eggs in my stuffing. 2 eggs per box? I have to use 3 boxes to feed this family. I might try your idea sometime.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, 2-3 eggs for the whole thing instead of 2 eggs per box. That would be half a dozen eggs, yikes!

If I had to use 3 boxe4s to feed my family then I would reduce the number of egs. Maybe one per box - or less.

I almost always make my stuffing from scratch. It's really easy & cheap if you save your bread ends & stale slices in the freezer until you need it. I've used milk, chicken or beef stock, and veggie soup for liquid. It all comes out pretty good.

I've made my own stuffing twice. The first time it came out beautifully, but then I forgot how I did it, so the second time didn't come out as well. Then one day it dawned on me what I had done wrong. So I may try it again sometime in the future. If you're making it by scratch I think broth would be best to give it flavor.

Whenever I boil veg, I keep the water in a jar in the fridge. Next time I make something that requires added water, I use it. It just seems criminal to throw all those nutrients and flavours down the sink!

I've tried the apple juice idea before. It is good. Most of the time I use chicken broth or turkey juices that are left over and add lots of butter and pour bacon grease over it. My husband eats it like a side dish instead of with the meat. He loves it. But what man wouldn't like anything flavored with bacon.

My husband loves bacon, I suppose most guys do. But it reminds me of something. I met my husband while I was still with my ex boyfriend, but hubby and I were only friends at the time, I honestly had no interest in him. Well the ex was extremely jealous of him anyways, and used to say rude things about him all the time due to the jealousy. He loved to poke fun at the fact the hubby liked bacon, and behind his back called him some awful names that would inclued the words "bacon loving". Obviously it bothered me that the ex was so rude and it has stuck with me all these years. I think about it every time hubby asks for something with bacon, but I've never mentioned it to him.

I always thought that you are supposed to use chicken stock for stuffing. The apple juice idea sounds awesome, I can't wait to try that next time I make it. I've always used butter and chicken stock and it always tastes really good. I used Rachel Ray's chicken stock in a box this year and it turned out so much better than the chicken cubes or canned broth. Thanks for the idea

The box stuffing just calls for water. I'm not sure I've ever used chicken stock or any other type of broth, but I will probably try it sometime.

That sounds scrumptious. I'll have to try that. I also make a version of apple pork chops that hubby loves. As for stuffing, I generally add celery and mushrooms to mine, then use either chicken broth or vegetable broth instead of water. We seem to like the chicken broth the best though. I'm going to have to try the apple juice though.

I do use boxed stuffing sometimes, katsmeow, but I like to add my own special touches to it. I most often use chicken broth because I think it makes the best flavor. I also add some diced vegetables and corn bread and I really like adding lots of sage. I love pork chops and stuffing, but I've never tried the apple pork chops - sounds yummy!

The only time I use boxed stuffing is when I am making Mexican Chicken Casserole. In that use use part water and part salsa for the moisture. The apple juice in the stuffing with apple pork chops sounds good.

Hey kats! That sounds perfectly wonderful! What a great idea! I bet that tasted great! I would have never thought to do that! I like that idea! I am not that found of the boxed stuffing and think it certainly could use something different to give it some flavor. I find it to be too salty for my taste and adding something sweet would definitely cut the salty taste! I like that idea alot and am thinking that I might try that myself the next time I make stuffing! Thanks for a really great idea!

Apple pork chops. That sounds yummy. I never thought of using juice instead of water but I often use chicken broth as a substitute. Gives the stuffing a little bit richer flavor I think. Great idea.
