Well I did. It happened to me this morning. I put the keys in the lock but it did not give in. I did not realise what was wrong. Then I looked at car. It looked like mine. Same colour same model. I tried to open the car again. But the car did not open either. Then I looked inside the car and I noticed that the seat covers were different from mine and the car was cleaner on the outside. It was parked just right beside my car, thats why I did not realise immediatedly that it was not mine. Have you tried to open another person's car? yes many years ago in glasgow i had parked up and went back to get the car a few hours later.i opened the car up and drove away.about 5mins later i was stopped by the police.they asked if it was my car and i said yes.they asked registration number i gave my number.and it was only 2 digits diffrent from the one i was in.they then asked whre i had gotten the car from i told them where.we all ended up going to see the place and my car was still parked there.they looked at both cars and said simple mistake.as you see way back then if you owned a ford the key ft109 would open and start 99% of them.got away with the theft because of that

Hi Devref, thanks for sharing this experience. My wife was telling me this morning that one of her colleagues managed to drive a Fiat which resembled like here but it was not hers.

No I have not done this. I did encounter a lady in the parking lot once that was trying to get into a car and the keys would not open the car. She told me that she did this a lot and now the way she finds her car is to push the open trunk button on her key chain and when the truck opens she knows which car is hers.

Well, I have not encountered such situation. It seems that I can always distinguish my vehicle from others. I also take note of the location where I park my vehicle so the event of mistaking another car and trying to open it in my case is very remote.

Yup, previously when I used my other car with the key-lock. It was a common model, so I have gone up to the wrong car (same color & model) and tried to open it. Luckily, no alarm went off. My current car has the remote lock, so I no longer have this problem!

i have tried this once unknowing in a parking lot.i parked the vehicle in the ground floor and went to shopping .then when i returned back i found two honda city cars parked parallely ,i got confused ,as both looked alike and i put the keys on the wrong one and tried to open it.at that time the owner of the car came and stared at me ,as he looking a thief.then i understood and narrated the situation to him.this was one of my saddest moment in my life...then i took my own car and came out....happy myloting and have a nice day ....

This happened to me just the other day. I was at Wal-Mart and when I came out I went to the car and took out my remote, I kept hitting the button and was wondering why it wasn't working,I even pulled on the handle. When I finally looked in the car I realized it wasn't mine. I looked around to see if anyone had seen me and hurried away.

I haven't a car so it has never happened to me before. However, I did waitte by the wrong care once and when my dad walked up he said to me to move along because that wasn't our car. It was the same model and colour aswell. It can be a bit embarrasing but I had a good laugh about it later. It would have been more awkward if the person who's car I was waiting beside would have walked back to their car earlier and saw me waiting there.

Hehehe.. That's odd and that's funnily dangerous! Heehhee. It never happened to me before but it did happen to my brother and his girlfriend before. Her mom used the car and told them to pick them up after movies since they were in her path. Anyhow, they waited for the car to arrive and when it did, they opened the door and went in, only to find out they were in another car!!! The owner was a bit shocked why they came in and they hurriedly apologized and went out! Whew! That was indeed humiliating for their part.

Oh no, that is a big mistake. it is good that the real owner of the car did not see you or he will spank you. he might think that you are doing something in his car. it is advisable to be very careful the next time. make sure what you are opening is really your car. with me, i have not experience it yet since i do not have car. be careful the next time, to avoid some problems.
