just another of my wierd questions.. LOL.. I was reading a book where i came across the fact that the central character was named after some great author. It suddenly struck me that i never thought about where my name came from. I asked my parents and they told me(to my disappointment) that i wasnt named after anyone great. They just thought of the name "NISHA" and named me so. Other than the fact that it means "Beauty of the Night",there was nothing special about it. Well, i guess there might be some mylotters who are named after someone special.. So people tell us the story behind your name...

My mother is so religious that's why I was named after a saint so with my siblings. But I had a friend who was named after her mom's ex boyfriend who happens to be gay after their break-up. I can't really resist laughing for that thought, but honest it is real!

I was not named after anyone in particular. I was born in Italy and my parents named me Paola which I always hated but they thought was "very refined". When we moved to Australia my name was mispronounced frequently. I have been called Pola and Parla at one stage, so I translated it to English and I have been known as Paula for the past 30 years.

I was named after a comic strip. Back in the 40's there was a comic strip called: Brenda Star and I was named after her. I guess my mom loved comics!

Nisha, I was named by a neighbor lady from whom my parents purchased a piece of property. Her name was Lottie and she named me after her bestfriend, Audra Allean. Well, my name was changed by my older sister and I do not carry the name I was given. Been a long time since I thought about Ms. Lottie, thanks for the memories.

hi nsha_verghese! happy new year to you! well i wasn't named after someone special but i was named after Princess Sarah Crew, another famous princess story during the year of 1980's. my mother used to watch this movie having shirley temple in it portraying as Sarah Crew. with my nickname, POPS, i was named after a singer/actress in my country and since her surname sounds like mine with a difference of one letter then they have chosen that name on me. it is indeed great to know how you get your name. right. well, happy posting and happy new year!

hello. I like your name & think its very beautiful. although my name has resemblance with a singer i don;t think my family derived my name from him. I was named by my grandpa. When I was born, the singer was not in business,so there is no chance my grandpa would be knowing his name. In my childhood days I even dreamed of being a singer but as I grew up I knew i was not made for that.Still I am proud of my name & i think everyone should be. After all its the name that establishes our identity & there is so much game played in the world in the name...what say? have a nice day.

Sure was, my mom named me after a famous 40's starlett. The other thing mom did was she didn't give any of her children a middle name. She had one and hated that everyone would change it up all the time, so I don't have a middle name and neither does any of my five siblings. Thanks for the discussion, happy posting, be happy, be joyful, be safe, be strong! oohcute2340

well whether or not you were named for a special reason, i think you may have been or still is a "beauty of the night" at least at one time, at least for one person one way or the other. :) my name has no special meaning, whatsoever. i'm the 7th child of 8 siblings, where 5 are female. i'm the youngest of the 5. all 5 of us were named after my father's mistress at the time we were born... or so we were told at a later date (actually, when we were all grown up). the only difference in my case is that my full given name is a combination of the names of my father's mistress and his youngest (favorite) sister. i don't know if my mother was ever aware of how our names came to be. maybe if she had known, we would have been named differently. having learned the story of my name, i tried using nicknames more often. i'm much more comfortable doing that. i'd rather be called a name that reflects me and my personality, rather than be called by a name so unwisely chosen for us, and that only reminds us how unfaithful my father was. probably the only consolation i got out of the better half of my name (from my aunt) is that my aunt's passion for reading, writing and numbers kinda rubbed on me too. and i'm quite thankful for that. :)
