How does Captain Barbosa survive?

It has been such as long time since I watched the whole series and I have forgotten many things. This is one of them. In the first movie, Jack Sparrow shoots Barbosa when they are fighting at that place and Will drops his blood and medallion into the chest. How does he survive then? The second movie ends with him coming downstairs in that lady's house. Can someone please fill in the details and the gaps?

Tia dalma, (tha lady) is calypso...she bring him back to life because she's able to..and he was needed.
