Have You Ever Clipped Your Pet's Nails?

Whenever I have owned a dog I've never even tried to clip his nails. I don't think the dog would have let me. Now a cat sometimes will let you because a lot of times they will just lay there and not be bothered. I've clipped one of my cats nails a few times but I prefer to let the vets do that. I'm always afraid that I'm going to clip too far down. Do you clip your pet's nails?

We have cut the nails of 3 out of our 4 cats. Peaches won't be picked up, so we don't do hers. She doesn't need the trauma. One of us holds the cat and talks to her; the other clips the nails. I'm usually the holder. Usually they are good for it. After it's over, they get treats, even Peaches who had nothing done.

I have 4 dogs and 2 cats and I have clipped all their nails. I just want to find that cattha"just lays there "and lets you cut them! I bought the pedipaws and works well on small and medium dogs, the nail of my Giant Schnauzer will not fit in the opening, AND I will NOT use it on my cats, because makes some noise and sands the nail though each level would take much longer for a cat than necessary. I have cut too close before, but was quickly forgiven and had some qikstop for bleeding. Most times now I use the pedipaws on the 3 , the cats however are their own entity!!

hi,No, i don't clip my pets nails. I grind them down naturally by taking them for walks on thr road in front of my house, eventually their nails are a normal length. as for the cat, well, he hates me touching his feet so ...lol

I don't think I would have the guts to clip either of my cats nails, that would SERIOUSLY tick em off. Though I have had to clip my pet rats (back when they were alive anyway) nails, that was fun, because my brother refused to help me. I had to hold this squirmy scared rat and TRY to clip its nails (I didn't have a pet nail clippers, but I had read some people use human nail clippers for rat nails) but I think the most I ever got was one entire foot of the rat, before it wouldn't hold still enough for me to clip, and then back into the cage with a yogurt drop, and let it sleep, 30-45 minutes later I would go at it again with the same rat so it would be sleepy and unaware of what is really going on until I've already started clipping, usually I would only get a nail or 2 sometimes three before it would get too squirmy, Luckily I have never had to do this with our cats :P Like I said, they would throw a fit.

I have had cats all my life and we have always clipped them ourselves. I choose to clip everyweek and I only take off a small amount...I know I can do it safely. The trick is to make sure the cat is calm...I like to do it when they are asleep. If they squirm too much you can hurt them during the process so I wouldn't suggest it then. I have not tried the newest gizmo out there in pet nail care yet, but I plan to in the near future...i will let you know then. Mean while I hope this helped you.

I have not tried to clip my dog's nails before. In fact, when we just got the dog as a puppy, we bought a nail clippers and learned how to clip her nails from the pets' shop while we brought her for grooming. But it seems like our dog doesn't like us to clip her nails, and also later she always likes to dig the soil and play around, and her nails become not so sharp, and we don't even need to clip for her.
