Do you suffer from motion sickness? It has always been a problem for me. I can remember getting sick on several car trips when I was a child. My mom suffers from this and so does my son. Because of my motion sickness, I tend to be the driver. My husband is fine with this as he doesn't have this situation and actually enjoys reading while I drive! Oh, I wish I could do that! I'm ok with being the navigator and checking the map once in awhile if my hubby is driving, but reading a book would make me very ill.
Do you suffer from motion sickness? Has it affected your travelling in any way? How about flying on an airplane? Do you take dramimine? Any helpful hints that work for you?

Yes...but in odd ways. I can take a plane ride, no biggie...but I can't be in the back seat of a moving vehicle. What's number one on my list: video games. There are some games (HALO, Splinter Cell...anything with that kind of motion and graphics) makes me want to throw up if I look at it longer than five minutes. My poor son, he really loves playing them, but I know he feels bad when I don't want to play with him.
When my BIL was playing a James Bond game, I literraly went into the bathroom and puked...it was making me so dizzy inside. I know how you feel.

I do suffer from this and this is pronounced during a descent. As a precaution I sawa doctor before going on a trip to the mountains [Himalayas].He advised me to take Domstal thrice a day ;whenever I was travelling at a stretch and I went comfortably to all the places. However, I just could not manage one descent and I did throw up once.
But I was quite happy with my progress that time.
Once when I had to climb down from Kodaikanal[this is nowhere as huge as the Himalayan range' but there are plenty of hairpin bends. it is the hapirpin bends that make one feel really uncomfortable--
Coming back to the story-- when I was about to climb down , I had stupidly consumed some butter fruit[prior to climbing on to the bus] and this was an awfully stupid thing to have done.
It was terrible and I suffered badly with nausea and retching.
I have stopped touching butter fruit after that and I travel on a light stomach before descending a hill range. However, if I am hungry , this also has an adverse effect.Medicine helps to a large extent.
How is it that you are able to drive?

I get sick if I try to read. As long as I don't do that I am fine. I have never been on a plane, so I don't know.

I have never had motion sickness from a vehicle. I'm scared spitless of an airplane so I know I'd die of fright and have never tried to fly. Thank You

Hi rocketj1! I really don't suffer motion sickness when I am traveling by land or air. The only times that I suffer this kind of queasy feeling is when I travel by water. So, I usually take Bonamine which is locally distributed here in our country. Aside from taking the medicine, I am at a loss for any other remedies. Sorry.
Have a wonderful day!

I get motion sick pretty easily in a car. It takes me awhile to get over being motion sick too. I can't really read much while in the car, I can't play games. I just have to sit pretty still and just relax unless I'm driving. When I'm driving it isn't so bad. It just makes me queasy and makes my head feel weird. Other than that it's pretty bearable. And, as far as I know, I'm the only one in this family that has this problem.

I don't ever get bothered with motion sickness, but my sister does. It makes her feel better to drive, and it is better if she is sitting in the front of the car. I don't know why, but in the back she feels it worse. I had a friend who always got car sick, so when she was a teenager and they went on a long trip, her mother would give her Benadryl. It would knock her out, and she would be fine.

Every trip that was taken when we were younger ended in a disaster.. I had to stop and be sick, whether it be a short trip or a longer one.. I am over most of it now, it is nowhere near as bad as it was then.. It isn't gone completely, I do get a bit sick when I try to read books or maps while riding, so I just don't do that anymore..

I don't have problems riding. Mine is mostly just quick episodes. They might start without any notice. The worse one I can ever remember having was when we had an apartment in Nashville, TN. My husband called to say he was on the way home. That was 15 minutes away. I was fine, but by the time he got home, I was so dizzy headed, you wouldn't believe! I stayed in one chair for about 9 hours, only to get up to go to the bathroom to have the dry heaves. The thoughts of food even made me sick. The slightest movement of my head made me feel like I was going round and round. I had to sit with my head in one position. But, when it stopped, I was fine. When I feel it coming on, I do take a motion sickness pill to keep the worse things down. Just recently, we were watching a movie that our grandkids had here at Christmas. The camera was going round and round in the room, and I got so dizzy headed I had to shut my eyes! I had never experienced that before.

Hello rocketj1
You had me worried then, I thought you were going to say that you are suffering from morning sickness hahahaha LOL
. Two of my kids get car sick really bad though as of late they haven't been too bad until today that is. My son had an away game for rugby this morning which was about 30 minutes away and they were both sick there and on the way back too. There have been times when I haven't even got out of the town we live in before one of them had thrown up. It's funny because my eldest has never had the problem. I used to give them sickness tablets that worked but then I thought, 'how would I know if they had grown out of it' so I stopped giving them to them and get by with a sick bucket each and lots of wet wipes!!

Hi there,
I too suffer from motion sickness, in fact in my opinion there's almost nothing worse in this world than feeling nauseous. As other people have already said, sometimes the nausea it is caused by motion, and sometimes, there doesn't seem to be one particular cause.
What many people aren't aware of is that some medications (in fact quite a few) cause dizziness and drowsiness, sometimes the dizziness or drowsiness can get worse, if you're moving, or as you go from lying down to sitting up, or from sitting to standing up.
As you have already said taking an over the counter medication for motion the sickness will probably be enough. However, some people react to those medications very strong and become very drowsy and tired, which is definitely a drawback. If you find that these medications tend to make you drowsy and you can't take them, ginger, or natural ginger root is an alternative to synthetic medication. Ginger is a natural antinauseant it and will help with motion sickness if taken an hour to an 1½ hour before leaving. Remember, you have to give enough time for the ginger to digest in your system before it can be effective.
Often, I find that just simply closing my eyes and minimizing the amount of input I get visually, as well as auditory, can make a huge difference. I'd tend to get nauseous, when there's too much activity, noise or input for me to process. Wearing sunglasses and or headphones or ear plugs make a huge difference for me. Of course, I do not have children and those around me are generally respectful of my needing quiet so that always helps.
Feeling sick can be one of the worst things that we have to deal with. Try minimizing all of the stimuli around you and try some ginger, you can even buy ginger capsules if you wish, as a natural alternative.
Good luck to you and happy Mylotting!
