What's your worst horror story from when you were learning to cook?

I have so many... But one that sticks out is the squirrel. One of my guy friends shot a squirrel. He brought it over for me to cook. My first reaction was just cause I was a girl didn't mean I should have to cook wild animals. Our other 2 friends took his side. Men! My next reaction was I was NOT skinning or doing the other nasty things needed. I won that one. But then I still had to cook the darn thing.
First, I'd never used a skillet in my life. Second, I'd never fried meat in my life. My skills were limited to ordering pizza or driving somewhere to order food.
Needless to say, when I was done, it wasn't eatable. Well, I wasn't going to eat it! It was burned to a crisp, smoke was all over the apartment (good thing I didn't have any smoke detectors, that would have just been perfect), and those 3 males were laughing at me! Of course, they never forgot. Hateful creatures!
So, what's your horror story?

How does a cake fall in the middle? Remember, I'm not that great a cook. Most everything I do comes from a box! Please explain! (So what if it's been 20 years, I still don't like cooking very much. Explains why I don't learn very fast)

I don't know if this counts as learning to cook or not. When I was little, probably about 5, I was helping my mom bake a cake and was instructed to NOT under ANY circumstances lift the beaters out of the batter when the mixer was going. The phone rang and my mom had to leave the room for literally 10 seconds to answer it, leaving me and the mixer briefly unattended. As soon as she was around the corner my curiosity got the better of me and I lifted the beaters out just to see what the big deal was. My poor mother came back in the kitchen to find our WHITE cupboards, and her 1st born child, splattered with CHOCOLATE cake batter.
Ya, I think that was probably the worst!

Heh,heh, heh. It counts. I don't know why people have to do that. If I'm told NOT to do something, it's almost overpowering trying not to. Or don't push that button. Oh man. I wouldn't even consider pushing a button without being told to, but after that sentence it's all I can think about. It's like by saying DON'T to someone, you're waving a red flag in front of a bull. Or a human. Red flags--bull, don't--humans, yeah I can see the comparison.

I did have my fair share of horrific stories about cooking. I could not remember how old I was but I was cooking in our dirty kitchen. I was reading something and forgot I all about the food I was cooking. The kitchen was burned and our neighbors rush to our house bringing buckets of water. What a relief at least our house was not burned.
I was also making food in our apartment and the fire alarm sounded. My stepson was not there to turn it off. I was really scared because our negibors might get in panick. I kept on poking with the alarm what a relief when it went off.

Oh yes. Done that one too! Don't you hate that the fire alarms are almost always too high? Takes forever to get it off!

That would be really bad! Can you imagine having to call the fire department or someone just to shut the silly thing off? What a story that would make!

nothing quite so horrible has ever happened to me when I was just learning to cook. I think the worst I can remember was when I tried to cook eggs and i forgot to add oil XD i was wondering why it tasted so wrong I was like 9 maybe.
