How are you guys handling this recession?

Do you find you are not spending the money you used to? Do you not see any change, yet? Have you or your friends lost their jobs? How about your home? Is your home safe from foreclosure? It is sad seeing what our nation is going through right now and no 'new' president will fix this problem as he is, I am sure, part of the problem.

How are you so sure that Barack Obama is part of the problem? What could he have done as a SENATOR to cause this? The problem was caused by overspending on an unnecessary war that Bush sanctioned. I can even go beyond that, the problem was truly caused by us being a nation of credit. Buy it now, and pay for it later. When the war came about, it only made problems worse. No, Barack isn't part of the problem, at least no more than any one of us that has used credit recklessly (if he did as a private citizen that is). And I do believe that he will fix things. It will take some time to do so, maybe even his whole first term, but things will get better and we will have Obama to thank. Oh, and to answer your questions, the home I live in is safe from forclosure. I haven't seen too much change in prices outside of gas, and none of my friends has lost their job due to the recession.

With the exception of this month (January always sucks for us, because Santa goes overboard in December), my family is doing quite well. My husband is in the military, so there's no chance of him being unexpectedly laid off or taking a pay cut - in fact, he just started the process of reenlistment, and will be getting a bonus. I've also started working as a babysitter/nanny, which resulted in my family having MORE spending money than usual, instead of less. I did lose one family thanks to the recession, and it did hurt quite a bit, but overall things are looking up for us. We live on base, so no fear of foreclosure, either. I feel for families that have been hit hard by these tough economic times, though - it really isn't fair.

We were always frugal. I'm just paranoid about money now. EVERYTHING is changing. My Mom last her job last year, Dad got promoted, and now neither my Mom nor I an find jobs. We don't have to worry about foreclosure because we flt out traded this house for a piece of property we owned... It IS sad. I don't have much confidence in our new administration either...although he seems to be enthusiastically trying, our new President. *shrugs* Possibly part of the problem, yeah.

hello, I have always tried to live within my means. Many years ago I had to fight with my ex on saving money, he was spend, spens, spend and I was we need to keep a savings for just in case something happened to one of us. It was a no win situation but lucklily my b/f has adapted my thrifty ways. I made sure we have at least 3 years of car insurance saved and 3 years of my chiropractor treatments saved and now I am having him save for his own chiropractor adjustments. As of March we will be going separate cause I will move first and he will join me when he can get a transfer. I don't like being separated but we need a place somewhat less expensive. That's what this recession has done for me. I'm hoping Pres elect Obama can get this country moving again, he was not to blame just hope he can get us out of it.

Things for the most part are the same as it has always been according to my spending habits. I cut back a long time ago to begin steadfast repayment and get in control of my debts. I gave up shopping splurges, no movies out, no dinners out, no going out...I do miss it sometimes, but know in the long run those things do not truly matter. Because why do you need to look good when you feel awful LOL As for the President....time will tell.

I was never big on spending a lot of money to begin with so I've not made any real changes in my life with this recession. I have always made a monthly budget and then I stick to it. I refuse to buy anything on credit. I pay cash or I don't buy it. The only change I made came long before the recession hit and that is I gave up driving over one hundred miles a day for my job because of gas prices. I took a lower paying position within a few miles from my home and I actually bring home more money after paying the bills because I am not spending over 500 a month on gas for the old commute I used to do.

I honestly haven't seen any difference. Money has always been tight in my household, even when I was little. I saw a lady snap in Wal-Mart about how much paper towels cost and I told her "Welcome to the club." As far as the president goes, I don't think people should put too much faith in him, seeing as he's only human. All I can say is keep your head up.

frugal, frugal, frugal!!! have reduced spendind because prices of everything has gone up. Suddenly i have discovered value in discount coupons, which i never used to exchange & discount/loyalty cards which i never used since i thought that 2% is too smaal to be taken seriously. My job is safe for the time being, but i am sure my employers will use the recession excuse to avoid the increment. I have started a blog & hope to work on it judisiously so that i can have an alternate stream of income by 2010.

I live in one of the states that is one of the highest unemployment rates. I lost my job back in Sept. It's hard but I'm getting by. I just cut back on things that I know that I can do without. I try not to wast any gas, when I got out to pay bills or to get something I need I try to do everything in one trip. You would really be suprised at what a person can do without, the way times are now makes you think before you buy something. I used to just pick something up if I liked it but now I take the time to ask myself "do I really need this"? But I'm looking on thbright side, one day I'm going to get a nother job and things when get better.
