How Many Un-finished Novels Have You Started?

It seems like every year I think to myself, "This is the year I'll write my novel." I start one, I'll get really excited about the project, I'll get about half-way finished, and then I'll stop. Why do I keep doing this to myself every year? Do you do this, too? How many times have you started a novel and left it unfinished? If you have finished a novel, how did you keep yourself working on it until it was completed?

I have only one as I promised myself not to start another story until I finish writing it. I started to write my novel in 2007, but until now it is not complete yet. I am sad, because I have these ideas, but I'm lack of commitment. If you want to be a writer, you have to write, eventhough you have no ideas what to write about. That's how those writers keep their commitment. However I want this novel to be finished, no matter how long it'll take LOL. Wish me luck!

Well, I have two somewhat complete novels. By that I mean the story is finished but the editing isn't. Actually I thought one was finished until an agent told me it was too short, to go back and develop the characters. So now I've been reluctant to go back to it (but I promised myself I would this year get it done!) The other, first, bigger novel needs a lot of revisions because I have learned so much since I first wrote it. I will probably go back and take a lot of rubbish out. I have ideas for future novels but will not venture to start writing until I get the other ones finished and out in the agent/publishing world.

I fancy myself as a writer as well. There are times that I would start writing and I have a storyline and or plot already. However, I never get farther than the first page! So I have a number of story lines and plots with one page worth of my writing. lol
