Finding time to make extra money

United States

I am a new high school student and my mom is a single parent. She stresses herself out trying to make ends meet and put food on the table. She doesn't qualify for government assistances because they say she makes too much( she doesn't even make a thousand dollars every two weeks). I can't get a part time job because I'm 15 but i do work at my church over the summer. and after school I'm tired from extra curricular activies and have homework to do. How can I help to make some extra money so it will lessen the stress on her? Or is there anything I can do from home to bring extra income into the house?

You can check out my profile- I have the two best paying sites on there. & you can learn more about them from my blog. I've earned over $300 last month from FireHouse- I highly recommend this site- if you join, you'll see what you've been missing out on. It's the last banner on my profile, if your interested.

hi there brownbeauty.i suggest that you try online money making opportunities.Just like mylot, ciao, helium, trion, reviewstream and sharedreview. But this works best if you have your own computer and online connection at home.If noy,the money you earned onlime may not be enough to cover your expenses in the internet shops and cafes.Try selling old stuffs you are not using anymore.Anything not used within a year will definitely not worth keeping.Try making yema, candys or ice candy and sell them at your home or at school, the capital needed is small.Save your money.Dont waste money on stuffs you really need.Recycle,Stuufs that cna be used again can be remodelled and make something new and worth using again. And the most important thing is pray.Have faith in God.Anything is possible as long as you get your strength from him. Smile, life is not that hard and complicated.Besides, you still have your loving mom with you and working her best for you.Things will get better soon. Have a nice day.

First of all I would invest my energy in study and education if i were you. it is the key for a better future and can enable you to have a better paying job later on in life. I think you are already doing enough by having a summer job. I don't know if you can find a part time job that does not involve a lot of work that you can do before you start high school such as distributiong newspapers. Or after school such as a dishwasher in a restuarant. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog

There are places that help reguardless of income. Call the food shelves (with your Mom's permission)and see if they all have income requirements or if they don't. Also their income guidelines may be different from the government ones. Some food shelves will give to whoever shows up as long as they only come once a month and provide proof of ID. There are community meals for free some places, you can find out about those. You can read all the frugal tips on Mylot to learn how to make the money your Mother does make go farther. You can shut of electric appliances when they're not in use and unplug the ones you seldom use. You can find out by calling your electric supplier if they have free energy audits and if they give out free stuff to help cut your energy. You can find out if your Library has the books, Tightwad Gazette I, II, or III in and see if any of the ideas there would help your Mom. You can be satisfied with clothes from Thrift Stores, Salvation Army Stores, etc. You can plan routes so they use less gas. You can learn how to recycle things to make gifts. You can learn from any older relatives how to knit, sew, etc. If you have a dog with long hair, you can find out how to brush the hair out, clean it, etc. and spin it or sell it to someone who spins dog hair or knits or crochets it. You can garden. Indoors or outdoors. Growing some of the food you need this spring, summer, and fall is an enormous help. In my day, everyone helped make the family income work and it's going back to that. Congrats on being ahead of everyone else and being a wonderful daughter. Take care.

I know your situation. When I was in secondary school, I helped my family as well. After school at about 5pm, I went to the nearby bread shop to order 2 boxes of different breads. I went to the nearby blocks ( about 20 blocks ) to sell breads. I knocked almost every house daily. I think you can find some part time job or perhaps you can participate some web site mentioned by other my Lot users. Wish you good health, happiness and wealth. The important is to study well now.

When I was 15, I babysat on Saturday mornings and I had a paper route delivering one of those weekly free papers every Wednesday. Will either of these things work for you? I know of one girl who when she was 13, she hired herself out to help with kids piano practice - sort of a piano tutor.

It is good to hear that you want to help your mom earn some money. However, since you are still 15 years old, the best that you can do now is to make life easier for her at home. Make sure that the house is in order before she comes home as much as possible, let her enjoy some peace a quite. She badly needs to rest after a long day at work so make sure that she gets some rest when she gets home.

Hey! How are you doing? Well please add me as a friend and we can send private messages. I can offer various ways just like myLot. You may have to get your mom's permission or she may have to sign up herself...but it will be extra money that you can spend. Pablo

I had been trying too hard to find out ways to earn some extra money from internet. Initially I spend some money too in some scams but learned something from that too. I met some people who were very helpful and showed me the ways to my goal. Today I am in a state where I can say that after some time I won't need any job and will earn good money from home only and what can be the best than it? You can add me as friend and send me a PM. I will try my best to help you. Have a good day!

i was in the exact same situation as you are when i was your age, it's tough to deal with this kind of stuff some things you can do to make a little cash at that age could include a paper route, it's tough getting up that early and making your route before school and it doesn't pay much but it does pay, you could also do errands for people in your neighborhood, when i was doing my paper route i was also shoveling driveways in the winter for many of my customers as well as doing yard work for some of the elderly customers, anything from raking leaves to mowing lawns to just helping them plant flowers and chatting with them for a while, sometimes, especially with elderly people, it's more about the time and effort you show them as opposed to what you actually do that will pay off in the end. also it doesn't hurt to start putting resumes and stuff around now some places like fast food restauraunt and coffee shops will interview you and have you ready to start work on or shortly before your 16th birthday, best of luck to you and i hope you find something that will work for you
