There really is no difference, and the difference is slight if anything, between selfish and the other two. Where selfish is often refering to someone who thinks Solely / only of themselves, and looks to their own self interests. But these adj are interchangable and are often syn, for each other. self-absorbed adjective preoccupied with own interests thoughts etc Excessively self-involved. absorbed in your own interests or thoughts, etc Origin: 1840–50 self-in·volved (self'in-volvd') adj. Absorbed primarily or only in one's own interests or activities adjective absorbed in your own interests or thoughts etc syn: self-absorbed] selfish –adjective devoted to or caring only for oneself, concerned primparily with one's own interests, benefits, welfare, etc, regardless of others characterized by or manifesting concern or care only for oneself, selfish motives Origin: 1630–40; adj. Concerned chiefly or only with oneself: "Selfish men were . . . trying to make capital for themselves out of the sacred cause of human rights" (Maria Weston Chapman). Arising from, characterized by, or showing selfishness: a selfish whim.

I think basically they are the same, since each come back to being concerned with ones self, but the different words are used in different contexts. for the one example of a definition I have found uses the term self absorbed to describe self involved. and that the definition for self absorbed uses selfish as part of its definition. So I do think it is basically how the words terms are used, though most may put a more harsh feeling to the words selfish. I think to some degree, there are those who find that there is a difference, because personal views may determine for some that a selfish person never considers anything that is not in their own interests. While someone that is say self absorbed doesn't disregard others as someone who is selfish would but that self absorbed person just doesn't really notice it is more a thoughtless but unintentional view for those who are selfabsorbed. Example may be that if there are two people waiting for elevator, one person is loaded down with packages or things they need to carry, the other two are not. The person who is loaded down can not easily push the button for their floor, neither of the other two offer to help. One doesn't offer to help because they are so self absorbed in what they are doing, and where they are going they simply don't notice that the person loaded down needs help. It is not a lack of care or compassion so much as it is they simply don't notice much that doesn't affect their goals. The person that is selfish is likely to notice the other two people getting in the elevator, since they would be interested in knowing if the other two are going to get their way or slow them down by causing the selfish person to have to stop on their floors, and be annoyed at them since the selfish person doesn't want anyone or anything to interfere with their goals or intentions. So now the person loaded down with packages asks someone to push a button for her floor. Well the self absorbed person is more likely to do so, because they are not really mean spirited, they just tend to have a tunnel vision in regards to themselves. The selfish person however may become annoyed or angry over this and may even simply NOT push the button because the selfish person sees no reason to go out of their way to 1. help this stranger who means nothing to them. and 2. why push a button that would mean stopping on another floor before reaching their own, there is no reason to be made to wait since the other person can't even push the button for themselves that shows that they should just have to wait even if it means going up past their destination and having to go back down again.

being self-centered simply means that you think everything revolves around you and nothing else. Being self-absorbed means that you are pre-occupied with yourself that nothing else seems to matter anymore than what you are focused on... sometimes even focused on yourself. Being selfish on the other hand means you want everything to yourself. Nobody should have what you have because you feel that you are the only one who deserves it.

yup basically that is correct but when you are selfish, it is not just a feeling of you deserve it more than anyone. It is also a matter of you wanting to get everything because you want it and even if you don't want it, you get it for the main reason that you just want to have everything. With self-absorbed you just simply focus too much about yourself, doesn't mean you have to be doing anything. Being self-absorbed means that you're too focused on yourself because you feel certain emotions that are too self-oriented which does not always makes you bad because most times it is subconscious in nature.
