It really depends on your pet. I have small dogs. I bathe them in my bathtub once every few months. Some breeds need baths more often. I went to grooming school. If you bathe your dog to often it will dry their skin out. For dry skin use an oatmeal shampoo.

When we lived in Hawaii, it was hot and humid so we would give them a bath once a week. We now live in California and it's not humid where we live so they get a bath once every 2 weeks. During the really cold months, it may be every three weeks or so. I have two dogs that weigh about 65-75 pounds, but I still give them a bath in the tub. I can't get myself to give them a bath outside with the water hose because there isn't any hot water. I only do that if they are really dirty from running around the park and it's a hot day. Other than that, I change the drain thing to a screen to catch all their fur and they get a bath in warm water.

I used to bath my dog twice a year. I used to groom a rough collie every two weeks. This kept him clean from parasites and other insects. He was a rather clean dog indeed. I used to bath him outiside on a sunny day. I did not use our bath because I think it is unhygienic even if he was a clean healthy dog.

We would bathe our dog Jessie about once a week or more when she got very dirty and especially after we gave her a hair cut. We would put her in the bath rub and turn on the tap, keeping the plug out. We would use a big measuring cup (4 cup one) and pour the water over her after dampening her to put on the doggy shampoo. The latter had a nice floral spell because well she was a girl dog. Then we would rinse off the shampoo, wrap her in a towel. Of course, the bathroom door was closed and there were plenty of towels on the floor and she did look like a drowned rat. Then I would use the hair dryer to dry her off. That was years ago. Jessie is now gone.

Every 3 months my two papillons go to the dog groomers. They get bathed and brushed and their nails done etc. Otherwise they are bathed when they get dirty. I also have a shepherd/husky cross and he gets bathed whenever he is dirty, it can be every couple of weeks or so. And that is the same as my heeler but he does not get as dirty with the short hair.

I bathe my dog in the bathtub. He's a small 21 lb. Boston Terrier so he's easy to wash and handle. He has bad allergies so he needs to be bathed more often than most dogs, so we give him a bath once a week, or once every two weeks, depending on how his skin is doing. Bathing an allergic pet often is key to keeping the allergies under control, as you can wash some of the allergens off of their paws and face, etc. He's a short haired dog, so all I have to do is wash and dry him with a shammy cloth and he's good to go. No brushing or trimming is needed, which is very convenient!

Hello vanities, Oh, this is one thing I don't like! Very sorry as I don't share the same hobby with you and most people. I don't like animals. I don't know why... My son loves cat... but he loves to kick the cat. One time, my babysitter told me that he kicked the poor kitten and she said the kitten fell down and rolled over the floor. Maybe the poor animal felt dizzy after what he did. I told the babysitter not to let him goes nearby and don't let him simply kick every thing!

Hi Vanities! Yes Dogs nails have to be trimmed on a regular basis. This may be a little tricky for people who have never trimmed nails. You need to buy dog nail clippers. You have to make sure you do not cut to close to the quick of the nail.[the pink part]. If you do they will bleed. White nails are way easier to trim than black. With the white nails you can see where the quick begins and where to cut. Black nails you just have to judge. My advice would be to have your vet or groomer do it first and show you how.
