This is just a hypothetical question so just bear with me and try to imagine the scenario and then give your opinion. Here it is: What do you think would happen if, one day you just woke up at 3am when most of the people are asleep. You left your radio on and heard that there is no more oil! What would you think would happen FIRST thing in the morning when this news is blurted out on the radio and what would you do?

We would obviously have to hurry with the alternatives. We should be doing that anyway. Dependence on fossil fuels has put us in a real bind, and it should end. Until we could get changes made, we'd have to work from home in order to avoid the need to drive when there's no fuel for the car or even a bus. Before all the crying and complaints end, we need to adopt alternatives!

If there's any way a person could work from home, it's a fabulaous idea for a lot of reasons. Much of one's child-care expense would be gone or reduced. Clothing, dry cleaning and similar work-related expenses would be gone. No lunches out would be needed. It's actually quite a lot of saving that can be done that way!

My thoughts exactly! No lunch out, no commuting. Plus you can be with your family in cases of emergency.

thank you for responding. I also had the same idea before when gas prices here are going so high. I also thought that some companies should allow their employees to work from home now that there is a better infrastructure for communications. In this way, we lessen the use of gas and reduce emissions as well.

I would not get upset because we can survive without oil. There are other cleaner alternatives. That should be used anyway I would not miss oil one little bit. I would not miss the wars and constant bickering and fighting over oil. I would not miss the ups and downs of gas prices. I would not miss the smog it causes. Actually I would be happy because we would be forced to use the alternatives and our Earth would not suffer as much as it is now.

To answer your questions, the fisrt thing that would happen is the stock market would crash, the banks would stop making loans and we would be pretty much where we are right now...only it would get a lot worse before it got better. We would be able to come up with alternative forms of fuel but it would be expensive....biofuels, nuclear energy, natural gas.

I think the end of the world wouldn't come then. Although we'd have a pretty tough economic struggle then but what would really happen? We'll make do with what we have! Traveling would be close to impossible so importation and exportation would stop for long time - that means that there's a big opportunity for local markets to start up. But I may not be looking at the underlying problems. I think it would be pretty tough for a while until locals find out that they can actually produce for their own needs. Thanks for the response no my discussion!

I'm a chemical engineer student and it's a big lie that there is no more oil. There is enough oil for at least some good more time. Guess where the oil can be found? here in the US. Is just too bad that old engineers want to stick with the old methods of refining oil right now. The oil problem is US issue, more than 1/3 of the oil is consumed by the US. If there was no more oil, the citizens will be in big trouble since only transportation is powered by oil. Companies are powered by other sources coal, wind and water turbines. And for all of those who fear the end of the oil!! There is several alternatives, and some of those are CLEANER, but it's the oil companies who will slow this down.
