I have a son, he is 1 yr and 4 months. We did not introduced to him using the pacifier because they said it is not a good one. From seven months he started sucking his 2 fingers, we tried to removed them from his mouth but in awhile he will put his fingers again. As months passed by, he already used to that habit until now. I tried different things for him to forget about sucking his fingers but I did not succeed. I already consulted him to the doctor and talked to her regarding putting chili on my baby's finger and she said it's fine. The doctor said that he should stop that habit while he's young because difficult to stop it as time he's getting older like her 4 year old son that until now still sucking but she can't help not to do it this time. But I did not put chili on his fingers because I know what would be the outcome. Anyone out there who have a baby like mine?

Have you tried the nail polish that's for nail biters? I haven't done it but I've heard other mums doing it to curb their want to suck their fingers as the polish has a real bitter taste to it.

Oh? I never heard about applying nail polish to a baby's nail. Don't you think there's no side effects if they can swallow the polish? I think I'll not gonna try that to my son. Enjoy mylotting. cheerS!

My son is sucking his thumb since he was 2 months old and until now, when we ask his pedia about it she said that it is ok, so we just dont mind it. My friend also who is a nurse told me that i should not make a big deal of it because it is just natural for the baby to do it.

At 2 months old? that is so young huh? My baby started older than that. I already consulted that to her pedia and she told me to buy that bitter stuff, she said I can purchase it at the pharmacy, not available here in the Philippines. What we have here is an herb, really bitter and when I let my housemaid taste it she said really really bitter. So I didn't tried it to my baby because I know he will cry and vomit.

Should have given him the pacifier. He feels the need to suck on something and you can get rid of a pacifier but the fingers stay.

Thanks for the advice, I tried him before the pacifier but was too late already, he already used with his fingers and will just bite the pacifier. I keep on trying but nothing happens.

Fortunately my son went through phases fast. He liked pacifiers but through it away at two to three months. He just didn't want it. He sucked on his fingers as well around eight months to a year. He also lost interest in that. So i guess i got lucky. I wouldnt worry right now. You can buy stuff at walgreens or rite aid though. The stuff is like this nasty taste safe to swallow stuff that you put on their fingers and they stop wanting to suck on them. I just think he is still young and you shouldn't be worried. I never forced my son off of anything because his age. I was patient and waited for him to be ready. I never enforced a sippy cup but he was ready right after he turned one.

I have heard of similar issues before with infants like that, the best thing you can do is just continue trying to do stuff to make him avoid attention to doing that, perhaps finding a game he likes a lot would help?

I already did anything, purchased him a toys and some other ways just to stop him doing it. I think I'll just wait till he can forget this habit.Maybe someday when he wakes up not a sucky finger baby anymore.
