Do you follow the directions on your clothes?

I spend painstacking minutes reading all the labels of my clothes before throwing in the wash to make sure I follow the directions.... but I don't follow all the directions. For example, if it says Lay Flat to Dry, but it's a Tshirt then I don't care, I'll throw it in the dryer. If it says Handwash or Dry clean Only, but it looks strong enough, I'll throw it in the wash. There are so many clothes that said Dry Clean only that I washed and they are fine. Certain things, like Dresses, I'll dry clean the first few times but after I've worn it 2-3 times, I'll try the washer. My dresses have always come out fine this way, and I use delicate cycles so I don't think I have to worry.
I admit I have shrunk a few shirts because I used the dryer when it called for lay flat, so now I know to pay attention to the fabrics. Real sensitive fabrics can't be in the dryer because they will either shrink, or become ruined. I never asked my husband to wash my clothes because I have all these rules to follow! His are so easy he doesn't even need to read the labels.
So do you follow instructions on your clothes? Do you follow them all 100% or do you bend the rules like I do? I don't like having 10 shirts to lay flat, but I will follow the rules on clothes that I think might be ruined otherwise. Then there are other shirts that I lay flat to dry even though they say they can go in the dryer. I do this because some shirts just seem to me like they will shrink.
Finally, why can't they make more girls clothes more sturdy so they don't have to be on delicate cycles and laying flat to dry all the time????

I agree with you. Why can't they make girls' clothes more sturdy. This way, we don't have to keep on buying clothes because we messed up on several of our clothes. I don't usually read the washing directions on my clothes' label but I do read when it comes to my coats. I do this because I know most of the time, girls' clothes are usually delicate cycles and lay flat to dry. But with coats, sometimes they require to be professionally dry-cleaned.

That's probably why they do it - so we'll buy more clothes!!! Coats are a pain. I always hate when something gets my coat dirty because they I know it's gonna be a trip to the dry cleaner. Certain coats, depending on the material, I will throw in the washer but only if I've had them for a long time. I'm not going to take my "raking leaves" coat to the dry cleaners. It's funny but usually the stuff comes out fine even if it said Dry Clean only so I start to wonder if the dry cleaners have a deal with the clothing makers to say it's Dry Clean only when really it's fine to wash it :)

There are types of clothes that are like that- even if you dump them in the washer, it is still okay. However, I had done that- thrown a coat into the washer, and unfortunately, my coat is messed up. The shrinking was just one of the problem! lol.

There's only my husband and me in the home and we wear cotton material clothes most of the time like 99% of the time. So its easy. I just dump it all into the machine for washing. Unless we have dinners or some special function and we wear dinner clothes then I will put these clothes into a laundry net. Other than that everything for washing just goes in. As for those shirts where the colors need seperating, I don't seperate them as the laundry compound I use is TupperClean from Tupperware brands. It has a dye inhibited in it so it helps in the laundry.

I guess most my clothes are not cotton. My work clothes are all sorts of materials. Plus I have a thing for really soft thick sweaters which are even harder to wash.
I need to get one of those laundry net things. My clothes have been ripped a few times by my crappy old washer! I bet that would help.
