Computer Noise

I just bought a new HP Notebook and I like it a lot, except that it is quite loud. I can constantly hear the fan running and it isn't a subtle hum. The sound isn't "unhealthy" sounding and it isn't problematic. They system performance is great and fast but this constant white noise is driving me crazy. Does anybody have similar problems? Any possible solutions? Should it be doing this? My computer is an HP Notebook dv4-1120us with 250GB hard drive, 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo, and Windows Vista Home Premium. It's kind of a powerful system...could the noise be a result of this? Thanks for any help.

Hey, Naturally the more powerful the computer, the more noise it makes. How good is the CPU? If it is around 2.4GHz or above, don't expect to hear a pin drop. But if you are concerned, just take it to the manufacturer if you still have warranty and ask them to tell you if it is alright. Happy Lotting!

what i would recommend puting small foam padding inside the computer and find the fan that is making the noise and replace it

If the fan isn't broken, and you can have it changed without damaging your warranty, do so. Some fans just don't run quietly. I installed a new fan in one of my desktops, and I had to replace it with a new, quiet running one, as it gave me a headache it was so noisy.

you can't blame HP for putting enough ventilation for your system. it's their job to do so. the noise could be anywhere from broken fan or it just needs oil, i dunno. it would be better to let the distributor take a look at it. use your warranty, it's your right.
