I'm not familiar with Windows Vista - question

First of all, I need to let you know that I have a severe vision impairment, and have my own computer set up with enlargement features. I have a friend who has bought a new desktop (a Dell). She will call me and ask me how to shut down her computer via the "start menu." Obviously it is set up differently than mine with Windows XP, which is so simple, and I love it. I hate it that Microsoft Corp. has become a manipulative, CONTROLLER! OK - this is a side issue, and I need to go on: Can someone give me a directive as to how to do a 'shut down' with Vista? Also - does Vista have the same setup, with "add/remove programs" being within the control panel? My friend and I were trying to reset her 'home page,' but it kept changing back on her. I don't know if that was "Vista related," or what. Thanks for any help. C. C.

My son has a computer with vista and he never shuts it down so I never got to see how it's done. It does have a menu which disappears when not used but it reappears when you place the cursor at the top of the screen. i wonder if this works the same way in all computers? Cheers!!
