I know that Labradors always have skin problem, and my vet has warned me not to give yeast or chicken food to my Labrador. Recently I have been giving apples to my dog, Labby, as I heard it's good for health. My dog really enjoys eating all the food, but we can't really give her any other choices, besides her own dog food. Thus, I thought apple is a good choice. But I am not sure can Labradors eat apples, and I forgot to ask the vet about this.

I don't recommend any type of fruit for dogs as these can cause difficulty inbreathing; fluid accumulation in the chest, abdomen and heart; or pancreatitis. There are several other foods wich are harmful such as chocaltes, baby food, cat food, mushrooms, chicken or fish bones.

Hi there, thanks for your advice. But I have heard that eating chocolates will really harm the dogs.

Yes, in fact i've heard of the saying that sweet things will make dogs go mad... i mean lose their senses. You can feed them occasional biscuits and bread though, but again in moderation... they seem to love it.

While the apple itself is great for your dog's health, you'll want to core it to remove the seeds. Apple seeds contain trace amounts of cyanide. Although one apple and it's seed probably won't do any damage, one a day certainly will. Cut them into slices or invest in an apple corer so your dog can enjoy the treat, worry free. Carrots are also very good for dogs.

Hi there, thanks for your response. So, the apple seed is not good for dogs? Well, then I'd better remove the seeds before giving it to my dog. I'll try carrots some day too. Thanks for your advice.

I have not heard that apples are bad. Grapes and rasins for sure are a big no-no. Apples I think are ok, but as with anything, give in moderation. I know there is an illness that certain humans get if they eat too many apple seeds...not sure if the same would happen to dogs. Our lab eats anything given to her except, bananas, raw vegetables, orange peels and leafy lettuce (she'll eat the crunchy part of lettuce). I'm curious...why exactly did your vet say yeast or chicken food was bad for your dog? Does that mean breads and chicken are not good either?

Hi there, thanks for your response. Yeah, there was once we gave white bread (plain) to my dog, and then she has skin problem. The vet said, it may because of the bread, as it's yeast. As for chicken food, it's actually dog food with chicken flavor. We can only give her lamb flavor. I only give a bite of the apple to my dog daily, when I am eating apple.

Yea, same here. Some vets say non-veg isnt good for dogs. But i never used to get that at all. Anyway, they know what they're talking about. You can feed labs green leafy vegetables, carrots, garlic, honey, and apples (liquidized). Mix it along with the meat, but dont add salt or pepper or soy sauce ( :X ). You should avoid onions, egg plants and other exotic veges. You can even add little of sunflower seeds, pumkin seeds, sesame seeds (all crushed) and mix it with the rice. Its healthy and the dogs love it. The vets have no problem with this either.
