I moved to the Philippines over a year ago and ive tried the local chalk and imported some killers from the UK. But find the ants survive. Its mainly the red ants that i want rid of as they bite. Whats the best way to kill them for good? They amaze me as they climb inside the oven, often floating around in my drinking water and even get inside a hot cup of tea. Maybe they are extra tough mutant ants.

So there are terrorists among ants as well.
We never had big ant problems, and just used DDT (the white powder that comes as ant killer) and in the more ordinary case, just line the kitchen with salt and sprinkle them on table-tops, counters and such.
There is also the common method of mixing boric acid with honey (heat if needed to mix) and putting drops of it in places they frequesnt.
Yet another way of ridding of fireants (unfortunately temporary, and needs to be repeated every 2-3 weeks) is baiting with hydramethylnon granules (seige, maxforce are reputed brands).
happy mylotting. hope this helped.

Ill give your ideas a go.. I tried the powder but they just seem to go round it a few hours later. Wouldnt be so bad if i could locate the actual nest to poison it but we have long grass.

We have same problem too in our house in Philippines. I've been used those commercial ant killer but they keep coming back. Maybe you need to find the house of the ants and dig them out and pour hot boiling water on them until the die and use ant killer.Hope that might help.
