What Would Be The Implications Of An 8 Day Week

Why are there 7 days in a week? 7 is an odd number why not 8? And the Chinese say that 8 is a lucky number, so lets see what the implications would be if there were 8 days in the week Would that mean we'd get a three day weekend? Or would it mean working 6 days a week as full time employment? It would make us not get old so quick would it, There would be 416 days in the year 52 weeks in the year 8 days a week equals 416! What could we call the 8th day, where would it fit in the week, after Sunday or in the middle between Wednesday and Thursday? Do you think we would benefit from having 8 days in the week or do you think it would make things much harder for us? What are your views on an 8 day week? What if we started from today, this week there are 8 days instead of 7, how much chaos would that cause or do you think we'd quickly adapt?

Time was not created by man. It is created by nature. So you cannot change any part of it. Earth takes 24 hours to revolve on its axis. We call that "A Day". And Earth takes 365 days to go around the Sun. Then we go into astrology. There are 12 astrologic signs in our galaxy. Their position in the sky is related to the movement of our planet travelling around the Sun. That is why each month has its own sign. So we had to have 12 months. Now... when you divide 365 by 12... you get 30.4 days. And to get the week... 7 seem to be the most appropriate number. If you divide the month by 3... you get a 10 days week... which means people would only get 36 weekends instead of 52. In other words... they would have to work a lot harder and have a lot less recreation. If you divide the month by 5... you get a 6 days week... which I reckon would be good... but not so good for the economy... as people would work less by having 60 weekends. I have not studied religion... but since people go to church on Sunday... you can bet your shirt that it is GOD who created the 7 days week. In other words... the church created it.

But a 416 days year wouldn't make any sense? That you'd have summer 1,25 times a year and everything would get all messed up ... naa you just enjoy your nice 7 day week :)

I don't see any benefits of an 8 day week, employers would only force workers to slave another additional day. If they would give 3 days off to everyone then it would be ideal but they wouldn't do that, too much greed.

Hey wolfie34 Hmm an 8 day week eh? Yes I think that would be quite nice actually especially if it was at the weekend then I would get an extra lie in!! I would be able to spend longer weekends down in Cornwall rather than waiting for the kids to be off on half term or whatever. I would like to call the day Humday. I would very much liked to have had an extra day this week actually as I have been so busy that I have not managed to get everything done!!

A Hum Day? Or a Bug Day? and there's me going to call it Wolfday LOL! People do complain that there are not enough hours in the day, yet when you offer an extra day most people don't want it. What's the saying my friend? You can please some of the people some of the time but not all the people all of the time, is that right?

You are, as always, my friend, correct in your saying! Wouldn't want to call it bug day, as I am not too fond of bugs and it sounds a bit irritating!! LOL I would like a second pair of hands too if your giving days out you might as well give hands out while you are at it - cheers!

I need a nine day week to get everything done ,I never seem to have enough time.but what a long time to wait for your birthday and we would have some days in the early morning and some nights during the day or we could have an ten hour day and gain four hour everyday till we get to the seven day week, would we get paid on a daily rate or day rate,it is just to complicated to contemplate but I like your thinking more time to do things or less as the case maybe, this is a mad discussion and I wish this has passed me by as I am so confused.

Since most people have to clean house and do yardwork on the weekends, why was it never revised to be more balanced because I dont think many people really get days off anymore. This was set by the old Roman calender which some people may not be aware of....I think they should give the working people a real day off and not have it cost them to have it...

We have a 7 day week because that's a quarter of a lunar month and the lunar calendar was the first natural calendar. It's as natural a division of time as a day or a year if not as obvious.

This is a very interesting topic:) I think we may not be beneficial from it if there are 8 days for a week. As we are paid every month. And it seems I have to work one day more but my paid remains the same. Perhaps 6 days a week will be better:) And I can get my salary earlier:) I love China

But we would age much quickly my friend, our birthdays come round quick enough, 6 days a week would make them super speedy LOL!

I'll vote for it if it comes with a three day weekend. I guess it would mess with my head for a bit and then eventually I'd get used to it. What do you want to call your extra day?

Hi, Wolfie. I am not in favor of that 8 day week. If it would be a 3day weekend then i'd probably agree with it. I'll have more time for my girls and relax and be on mylot more....lol. But if it would be a 6 day a week work then, that would be a little hard. That would benefit those who are being pay on a daily basis. But i don't know i would not want a 8 day week. I'd rather that we stay with this 7day a week. I wouldn't want anything more.

If it were possible it might not be a bad idea. I had a job once where I worked 10 hour days and had three day weekends. I really liked that. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Personally I wouldn't like another day added onto the week, it would just be another day during the week to work. I like 7 days just fine, besides I don't think anyone would know what to call it,LOL I wish you good luck.
