Have you ever had a cancer scare?

Since I was doing some manual work and I did some extra effort, my haemorrhoids started protesting. I was in pain some years ago when I was moving house and I had to carry heavy objects. I felt the pain again and I saw the result when I went to the loo and see it covered in blood. My grandma has died of colon cancer and I was really worried that it might be hereditary and that I might have cancer. My family doctor set my mind at ease saying that my grandma's illness was correlated with old age while mine is another problem. Have you ever had a cancer scare? I had this lump in my br*st and when I went to my doctor, he said "cancer" and the trouble is it was a while before I got an appointment in the Br*&t health institute. I went through the x-ray, examination, and the biopsy (and when the freezing wore off, it hurt like he!!) They made me an appointment at the hospital, a couple of months later, took off the lump, and it was not cancer. It seems that once you reach 65, any lump is always cancer, but I guess I was lucky.

So am I. I was scared there for a while. I imagined myself being rather lop sided and I am not the type who goes into parades for causes. So I could not see me marching and carrying a sign saying "I am a survivor." I have enough causes to deal with without a condition that I may have contributed to myself although unwillingly.

Yes, I've been scared by cancer. About 3 years ago when I was 35 I developed a basal cell skin cancer. I thought it was just a pimple that wouldn't go away. I'm glad I went to see a dermatologist to get it taken care of.

Yes, you need to schedule your mammogram and see a dermatlogist every year to get a body skin check. They will check all of your marks and bumps that you have on your body.

recently i have come out of that fear...actually i had one swelling in neck and i was very scared that its cancer, so i went to a doctor and told him my fear, that doctor was after making money and so he told me that u will have to undergo operation and then it will be tested by biopsy, whether its cancer or not...i was too scared and the cost he told for operation was 14,000/- INR ...i was fully prepared for operation and got all the tests done, and the next day i had to be operated, my hubby told me that better u get it checked at some other doctor and take a second advice, i agreed and the another doctor told me that it can be confirmed without operation whether it is malignant or not, he suggested FNAC test, in which only the fluid is taken out with niddle and tested.....and its was simply a goitre and no cancer....oh god...i was so relaxed...and even my thyroid values are normal now...the swelling was formed sometimes when there was iodine deficiency.....so i have faced the fear !!!

Hi ronald a number of years ago I found it hard to bear children and was diagnosed with abnormal cells I had them lasered out and had two lovely children but after that they came back and I was told I had a form of cancer my only choice was to have a hysterectomy which I did, so far they have not come back but then a few years later my sister found she also had cancerous cells and had to have the same done...funny thing was it didn't scare me when I was told that did instead I was just grateful for my children...littleowl

Yes I have and I learned something very valuable from it. I had surgery for a ruptured disc in my neck but it was unsuccessful in resolving the pain problems so I had a number of different tests performed afterwards. One was a myelogram. The results were sent to my neurosurgeon and they were negative for what they were looking for. Months later I requested a copy of my medical records. In reading through the records I found that the myelogram revealed a tumor on my thyroid. The neurosurgeon had never mentioned it to me. I'm assuming since it wasn't causing the pain problem he was attempting to resolve that it "slipped his mind." I took those records to my general practitioner and she immediately sent me to another surgeon to get a biopsy. It took two biopsies to find out that it was a benign (non-cancerous) tumor. I now make sure that I get copies of all my medical records regularly and I recommend others do the same. What's important to you just may not seem so important to them!

My family is very lucky on this count with no-one so far (fingers crossed) having been involved in this horrid affair. I was close four years ago. After over a month with a very high temperature I was admitted to hospital for tests to rule out what they thought was leukemia. I stayed for seven weeks. I told my son and it was an awful time waiting for the results to come back to see which type it was. Eventually I was informed that what I had was caused by two very rare 'viruses' and it was nothing like what they feared. I wish they had not even told me what they thought it might have been. Fortunately all is well and four years later it is only a very bad memory of a very worrying period of my life and those close to me. I hope your problem is something that can be easily resolved!

Hi ya ronaldinu I can honestly say that I have been lucky to not have ever had a cancer scare. My mum did some years ago now but had the cancer cells were removed from her cervix, a simple and safe operation and fingers crossed nothing has come of it since!

I see people dying from cancer every day and it scares me. I come home telling my Boyfriend that I have this kind of cancer and that kind of cancer. I do have 2 Nodules in my Thyroids and my throat always hurts, so I always worry about Throat Cancer or Thyroid Cancer.
