Democrats Seek Criminal Probe Against Bush Administration

We've all heard the allegations of abuses by the Bush administration. Now, a House Democratic report says an investgation should be conducted to see if the administration broke the law. "The report covers Bush administration policies that Democrats have protested for some time. Among them: interrogation of foreign detainees, warrantless wiretaps, retribution against critics, manipulation of intelligence and political dismissals of U.S. attorneys." What do you think? Should the Obama administration conduct such an investigation? I think they should, because if the Bush administration can get by with breaking the law, that will set a precedent for a future president to do the same, or even worse. Why should the President be above the law? http://home.peoplepc.com/psp/newsstory.asp?cat=TopStories&referrer=welcome&id=20090113/496c1fd0_3ca6_1552620090113706224230

I think it's petty and a waste of taxpayer dollars. He's out. His term ends in a week. There's nothing to be gained by this. Even if he is guilty of something criminal, and I don't believe he is, he'll get away with it because he's rich, he's a politician, and he has connections. It will be a big waste of time that will leave everyone on BOTH SIDES unhappy and amount to nothing. I don't believe the Obama administration will waste any time on this unless his economic policy fails miserably and he desperately needs something to distract from his failures. If he does it now, it will be seen as a waste of time, money, and effort that should have been spent trying to heal our economy instead of dividing the nation.

I don't think things that may have led to people's deaths could be considered "petty" by definition. I agree that Obama will probably not do anything about this right now because there are too many things that need to be done first but letting it just die is sending the wrong message to future Administrations. LOL, waste of taxpayer dollars? Remember KEN STAR? They guy that republicans paide hundreds of millions of dollars to dig up anything he could about Clinton, because they couldn't beat him in an election. That was a waste of money, investigating Bush should be what every American should ask for. This administration has challenged the constitution so many times, that I am sure they voliated it atleast once. If we allow the Bush administration to voilate the constitution, then you are saying that it is fine for the president to do this. Do we really want to go back to the Nixon era?

Clinton was investigated because there were accusations made against him by an actual victim. He then committed perjury during that investigation. Investigating Bush right now would be a fishing expedition. I have seen no evidence that he committed any criminal acts. Congress voted for the patriot act, the wiretaps, the war in Iraq, and pretty much everything else he's done.

I think that we are getting to the point where we need an investigator for every president. Someone who investigates what the president did in office, and present the information to Congress, if they decide to press charges, then they will have all of the facts. I do think that the Bush administration should be investigated, and if there is proof that they broke the law, then they should be procecuted. No one is above the law (besides Nixon).

They will find that the detainees would rather die than give in, and that the only way to get them to give up their terrorists buddies would be to waterboard them. I am sure they did the usual questions, playing bad cop and good cop, putting them in isolation, threatened them with long prison terms and that did not work. I am also waiting for when the Obama supporters find that their freedom is taken away. If you are for criminal probes against the Bush administration, then you should be also for criminal probes against the Obama administration when you find you are no longer free. But of course that will never happen because only Republicans are investigated, Democrats have free reign.

Then lets investigate B.O. for all the stuff we think he's going to do.

You can't investigate someone because you think he WILL do something. Until he's actually broken the law, you can't do anything. Look, he's not even President yet. Give him a chance. You might be surprised.

I think for their torture of people someone should bring them to justice. I am tired of hearing cases of people whose titles allow them to be above the law. No way, no how! Let these people pay for what they have done. If they have used illegal procedures for those detainees at Guantanamo, they should pay. They should not hide behind the smoke screen of Sept. 11, or anything else. They should all, from the former president on down, have their day in court.
