Do you think we will ever see the last volume of this series?

Sadly, Robert Jordan passed away prior to the release of the last book in the Wheel of Time series. The interesting thing is that the story was mostly done at the time of his passing. In fact, it has been said that he gathered people to him and told the entire story to them. His editor was his wife, so she would certainly have access to his notes and any unfinished manuscript that might exist. As well, she certainly has an understanding of the series on the whole. While I would hate to see the last volume be ghost-written, I don't really have a problem if someone close to the series and the author were to get Jordan's notes into a final, completed work.

I heard that author Brandon Sanderson will complete the series. This might be old news, and things might have changed.

As you have found out by now, Brandon Sanderson will be finishing the last volume in the series. It's officially explained that Robert Jordan has left extensive notes on a myriad of unresolved plots and instructions on how the book should end. It is also said he recorded his voice explaining the details, so we can be hopeful that the conclusion of the book will be done according to his instructions. I remember an early interview of Robert Jordan where he said prior to the writing of the series he knew the beginning and the ending; he just made up the middle part. Brandon Sanderson looks a capable young author with some interesting creative work of his own, most notably Elantris, Warbreaker and Mistborn series. He is known for his exceptional skill in creating magic systems, in the sense that the One Power concept was a magic system in the Wheel of Time universe. I'm hopeful we will read a good solid book that will finally finish the series. And finally Robert Jordan will rest in peace, knowing that the massive work which is the Wheel of Time has been finished with the skill and respect it deserves. Amen.

I am interested in checking out Sanderson's books, now. Tor, the publisher, usually has a good crop of fantasy authors, so I would guess that Sanderson is fairly decent at least. I went to his blog site and read a little info on the other books that he writes. I received a gift card to Borders for Christmas, so I will check him out next time I go out there. I had also heard that Jordan gathered people to him and had story-telling sessions to relay to them the story of the last book. That would have been really cool to be one of those people!
