expensive brands or cheap brands?

hi all! with the current economic crisis worldwide, more and more people (and even the richest people) are starting to tighten their belts and are becoming more practical in shopping, or even sacrificing shopping in order to cope with their worsening financial situation. in my case, i used to buy a few expensive items (but only very few since i'm keen on my budget) before the 2007-2009 global crisis, such as a nice Lacoste cologne and a few wristwatches. but when the crisis kicked in, i decided to increase my stingy personality even more. i haven't gone on leisurely shopping since december 2007. but during 2008, i've gone shopping a few times, but i focus on less expensive brands of clothing, electronics and consumables. in your case, would you still prefer expensive brands or inexpensive brands? thanks and happy mylotting!
